We are currently living in an era where skin care products are evolving more , skin positivity is rising and being encouraged which is amazing . Consumers are now more aware about the ingredients being use in a product. Thanks to deciem, a brand which has introduced us to words like lactic acid , Glycolic acid hyaluronic acid etc. Little did we know these acids are beneficial for our skin. The brand doesn’t need any introduction, I have been obsessed with their azealic acid and have literally emptied two tubes of it as it provided me beneficial results. There is one stellar product of deciem which is always raved and that is their AHA BHA peel , a chemical exfoiliant . Its even referred as an instant chemical peel. A truth bomb- Yes I was apprehensive before purchasing this and trying out on my acne prone but here I am now reviewing it. I have started using in April. My review will be based on my experience of using this product on my oily acne prone skin since 4 months. Read below to find out…
Packaging:-
The ordinary AHA BHA peel comes in a thick frosted glass with a dropper . The quality is sturdy it doesn’t look or appear cheap. Most of their products are in similar packaging . It looks elegant and the best part is that the ingredients along with directions of usage are clearly mentioned. It’s travel friendly too.

My take on the product:-
Ordinary AHA BHA peel is a chemical exfoiliant which claims to offer deep exfoliation thereby improving skin texture , lightening blemishes and in removal of dead skin cells which causes skin congestion . Let’s discuss why it’s so hyped and contents of the AHA BHA peel, It has AHA [ alpha hydroxy acids] which are glycolic acid, lactic acid, tartaric acid and citric acid and BHA [ beta hydroxy acid ] which is salicylic acid [ One of my favorite ingredient for acne] , The product contains a cocktail of these acids making to a colossal of 30 % acid content . Additionally it also contains Tasmanian pepperberry which helps to reduce inflammation and redness , vitamin B5 which acts as antioxidant and hyarulonic acid which would help in minimizing probable irritation via high acid content. Moreover the base of the AHA BHA peel is water rather than silicon or oil which is amazing. Mind you I did comprehensive research about this AHA BHA peel before trying it out my acne prone skin. Its directed on their website that one should not use it on broken skin [Peeled skin] and extremely sensitive skin. We always think our skin is sensitive no matter what, I might not have extremely sensitive skin but still I make sure to try skin care products keeping in mind that my skin might react badly. Be it any product no matter how much hyped it is, I would always recommend to patch test before a direct application on face. With this eye catching product due to the presence of acids, I made sure to patch test. Here’ what I did- I applied little amount of it below my chin, waited for 10 mins and washed it off. I did a 36 hour test and noticed that the area which I applied for patch test was good and dint face any purging [ My heart felt good at that moment ;] ] . I was so ready to apply on my face. The texture of the peel is thick liquidy therefore it spreads nicely . Few pointers to keep in mind,
A] Use this if you have used acids earlier [Be it salicylic or glycolic acid] .
B] Avoid if you have extremely sensitive skin
Application:-
1] First and foremost, I cleansed my face and pat dried it completely, then I applied on my face avoiding under eye area using my fingers. I dint use the dropper on my face directly as its not hygienic . I dint use a lot of amount, even though you are tempted please don’t apply lot of amount.
2] Usually it is said that it tingles a bit, in my case it dint horribly tingle. or whatsoever , every skin is different . Since it was my first time I only waited for 4-6 min then rinsed it off with water. I recommend increasing the time gradually as your skin needs time to get used to it . As per the directions its recommended 10 min 2 times a week.
3] Another vital step is to apply it at night, the reason is that any exfoliation helps in removing dead skin cells and in this case we are using chemical exfoiliant therefore using at night is always safe as we don’t want our freshly exfoliated skin to expose to UV rays.
4] I gradually increased the duration of application on my skin but always made sure to not to extent the application more than 10 min. Even though its recommend to use two times a week however till today I only use once a week.
What can you expect?
Once I rinsed my face I noticed my skin appeared bright ,smooth and baby soft. I had congested skin around my chin and after application it was so clean and radiant. My blackheads were immediately sunken in leaving the area around my nose super soft. I applied a gentle moisturizer immediately to hydrate my skin, you can also apply aloe vera gel. Few products to avoid for 24 hours post application would be vitamin C , retinol or any medicated products. Make sure to use broad UV protection sunscreen the next day. Another point this product also helps to make other product work well on your skin as it removes the piled up dead skin cells.
Did it work ? Is it a must have product ?
The ordinary AHA BHA peel claims to lighten blemish and improve texture of skin , to be honest the product does work , it did takes its own sweet time. Its not a magical product but one should keep in mind that any skin care product takes its time to show the results. You can definitely expect an immediate baby soft skin but the lightening blemishes part is what takes time. Exfoliating skin is vital as this step helps in removing dirt which is accumulated in our skin thereby causing production of bacteria and acne . With ordinary AHA BHA peel I can safely say it clears my skin and avoid purging out acne on congested areas. Here is the exciting part, is it a must have product? Well I don’t think so since they are many chemical exfoliates in the market currently . Thanks to deciem they are many indie brands as well which are coming out with products containing AHA or just BHA. The reason this product might stand out is because it has cocktail of all acids in one which we usually see in separate bottles. That being said the usage of AHA BHA peel once a week can benefit your skin in terms of texture and appearance. I don’t find a single reason to hate this product , yes it appears scary but it works . It leaves my skin bright, smooth with less congestion which results in minimizing the outrage of breakouts.

Overall verdict :-
As we are getting aware of our skin and learning how harmful physical exfoliant with particles can damage your skin in the long run , we know how effectively chemical exfoliant can work for our skin if used the right one . Exfoliating can make or break your skin , as over exfoliation is not what our skin needs .Our skin should always be treated sensitively be it any product its always advisable to start with lower concentration , AHA BHA Peel is no doubt a great product which truly works , its not a product which is to be used daily – I would suggest if using then apply once a week only and start with lower duration. Its fragrance free , doesn’t make your skin dry and can help you achieve baby soft skin . You will achieve noticeable difference in your skin , mind you little goes a long way. Thin layer of AHA BHA peel every week for even 7-8 min can provide you smooth healthy skin with less congestion. I loved it and would recommend it.
