Book your flight cautiously
If you are flying to a Schengen country from India, be careful while booking your flight. As an Indian transiting through France, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic and UK, you would now require a transit visa as well to be obtained in advance. The cost of obtaining the transit visa is same as the cost of a tourist visa. So your visa cost gets doubled if you book with the wrong airline in a hurry. The same applies for travelers from other parts of the world as well.
British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France and probably few others with Air France the carrier have flights from India. And therefore it is recommended that you book your tickets not through them but through other airlines if your first destination is an European city outside these five countries and you transit through them.
You can choose between Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Finnair, Air Baltic, Turkish Airlines, KLM, Swiss and Air India. And if departing from Delhi you also have LOT Polish Airlines.
They certainly have the best rates, the aircrafts are modern, their food and service at par with other good airlines and they also offer the option of Hindu meal. Also accordingly to travelers the flights are relatively much less crowded. We are scheduled to fly with them soon and would certainly share our own experiences of the airlines after our trip.
Apply for your Visa early
Till a few years back the earliest you could apply for a Schengen Visa was three months before travel date. But now you can apply online six months in advance. Therefore the moment you are sure of your trip apply. That’s because the interview dates available after you apply are not before three weeks or so as is the current trend. You’ll be lucky if you get a date earlier. The processing time would take another 15 working days. Therefore plan in advance to have a wonderful holiday solo or with your family.
