But worry not! I have come with a fantastic option for your Valentine’s special breakfast inside the comfort of your home with your beloved!
Red being the color of love, what’s better than these bright red strawberries that are in season now to make something special on this special day!
And that’s how my guilt-free strawberry oats smoothie came into existence.
What is Strawberry Oats Smoothie?
Simply put, strawberry oats smoothie is that healthy and tasty breakfast that you can enjoy with your loved ones on the special day of Valentine’s day without absolutely any guilt!
Oats smoothie is already one of my favorite healthy breakfast options and I reach out for this quick breakfast more often than not.
To make things extra special on this special day, the regular banana oats smoothie got a makeover with the gorgeous and vibrant strawberries that are in full bloom this season.
All you need to do to make this beautiful strawberry oats smoothie, which I also call my pink health shot, is to blend in a cup of chopped strawberries that are nicely ripe and juicy.
Depending on how sweet your strawberries are, you have to adjust the amount of the sweetener, which in my recipe is raw honey.
And of course it goes without saying that you can enjoy this deliciously healthy oats smoothie any time of the year and not just on this special day if you can get good strawberries in your local market!
If fresh strawberries are not in season, feel free to use frozen ones and the good news is frozen fruits tend to add extra creaminess to the smoothies! You can freeze the banana as well before using it in your smoothie.
Ingredients for Strawberry Oats Smoothie
Strawberry: I prefer using the freshest produce of strawberries to make my strawberry oats smoothie at home!
This being the strawberry season, you get the plum and juicy strawberries from your local market that are best for making a delicious strawberry smoothie!
If you want to make this strawberry oats smoothie when fresh strawberries are not in season, you may use frozen strawberries which can be used directly without thawing them.
Rolled oats: If you are confused about the type of oats that works best for smoothies, then just go for old-fashioned rolled oats blindly without any second thought!
Rolled oats are less processed than the quick cooking oats, which are also called instant oats, and provide a full-body texture to your strawberry oats smoothie making it more filling.
Check the pro tip below to ensure the rolled oats are thoroughly blended in your smoothie without leaving any hard grain behind!
Banana: As you must have guessed, my strawberry oats smoothie is absolutely sugar-free (which is a default setting for any healthy smoothie!), hence I have used naturally sweet ingredients to sweeten it up!
One of the sweeteners is a ripe banana; the riper the banana is, the better! Plus, banana imparts a creaminess due to its texture when blended with your strawberry oats smoothie!
Honey: My second choice of sweetener is honey, which I am sure would have been an easy guess!
If you can, then please use organic raw honey to get the most beneficial result. Also you will see that I haven’t used a lot of honey, just a couple of tablespoons.
That should be good enough to balance the tartness of the strawberries. If your strawberries are nicely ripe and sweet, then you can adjust the amount of honey as per your desire.
Plain curd/yogurt: I started making my smoothies with yogurt and not milk simply because my digestive system is not very friendly with milk.
But thankfully my stomach becomes very happy when I replace milk with yogurt and that’s how I transitioned from milk-based smoothies to yogurt based smoothies.
I used about a cup of thick plain yogurt; if your yogurt is not very thick, you may have to use 1 and a half cup to get this thick smoothie consistency.
Salt: To balance the sourness of the yogurt, I always add a pinch of salt. It brings out the flavors of the other ingredients beautifully without imparting any saltiness.
How to make Strawberry Oats Smoothie?
Step 1: Wash all the strawberries nicely with water to get rid of any dirt. Peel the banana and break it into smaller pieces.
Step 2: To cut the strawberries, first cut off the head removing the green leaves. Then chop each one into smaller pieces. You don’t have to be too particular as they will anyways be blended in the smoothie.
Step 3: Now it’s time to start the blending. First, transfer the rolled oats to the blender and without adding any other ingredient, grind it to make a fine oats flour.
Pro tip: Grinding rolled oats to oats flour separately before adding any other liquid ingredients ensures that your oats are thoroughly ground and you don’t bite into a hard piece of rolled oats while enjoying your strawberry oats smoothie!
Step 4: Once you are happy with your oats flour, add all the other ingredients one by one – chopped strawberries, banana, yogurt, honey and salt.
Step 5: Now all you have to do is to blend all these ingredients nicely to make a thick & velvety smooth strawberry oats smoothie!
Step 6: Take time at this stage making sure all the ingredients are blended well. Also, if you feel your smoothie is too thick, add little water, about ¼ cup to make it thinner.
Step 7: Your healthy and delicious strawberry oats smoothie is ready! Pour them in 2 glasses and enjoy it with your fitness enthusiast (or not!) partner!
