Vibhanshu Mishra: My motivation to venture into Chalu Aapna Desi Chinese came from my deep passion for food and the desire to come up with something radically different in the culinary landscape.
I had observed that even though Chinese food was very popular in India, it always lacked the bold, pungent spices that characterize Indian cuisine.
I envisioned the possibility of filling this vacuum by combining the dense umami taste of Chinese food and the dynamic spices of Indian cuisine and bringing the best Desi Chinese in India.
The idea was conceived out of a dream to present a contemporary and new style of Chinese food, adapted to the Indian taste buds.
We started in 2020, and since then Chalu Chinese has struck a chord with food enthusiasts nationwide, demonstrating that there was a strong demand for this innovative fusion.
How do you differentiate your restaurant from other casual dining options in the market?
Vibhanshu Mishra: At Chalu Apna Desi Chinese, our uniqueness is in the way we mix an Indian twist with Chinese flavors. We are different from other Chinese restaurants because we add flavorful Indian spices to our food, giving it a “desi twist” that is familiar yet new to our customer.

Vibhanshu Mishra: Joining the food and beverage industry can be exciting and difficult at the same time. My suggestion to potential entrepreneurs is to begin with a vision in mind, along with a strong passion for what you’re doing.
Know your market and what your concept has to offer and how it is different from others. Quality and consistency in your products or services are most important, as this will establish your customer loyalty.
Embracing technology to increase efficiency and improve the customer experience. Be ready to adjust according to the shifting trends and consumers’ demands and always be willing to hear feedback, which certainly can be negative a lot of times.
But use that as an opportunity to improve. Finally, never downplay the role of marketing and branding. Having a robust online presence and great marketing campaigns can be the deciding factors in gaining and keeping customers.
