An awareness programme, ‘Empowering women and enriching society,’ was organised by the
Women Empowerment Cell of Government Engineering College, Bodinaickanur, recently. Coordinator E.S. Uma Maheswari welcomed the gathering. Principal C. Vasanthanayaki presided over the event.Stella Ibrahim, Director of A.H.M. Trust, Bodinayakanur, was the chief guest. In her address, she said women had a role in bringing about social change. She advised students to use mobile phones in moderation and to act in a way that earned the trust of their parents.

The Department of Physics of Sri S. Ramasamy Naidu Memorial College, Sattur, is organising two-week science academies refresher course in Theoretical Physics. P. Sundara Venkatesh, Course Coordinator and Head of the Department of Physics, delivered the welcome address. He underscored the significance of theoretical physics in contemporary scientific research and the vital role of such refresher courses in fostering academic growth.
In his presidential address, Principal P. Rajaguru highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration in advancing research and education. In the inaugural address, Prof. Laksmanan from Bharathidasan University emphasised the dynamic nature of theoretical physics and its role in expanding the frontiers of scientific knowledge. Prof. Govind Krishnasamy from the Institute of Mathematical Sciences stressed the critical connection between mathematical sciences and physics. S. Nithya, Assistant Professor, proposed the vote of thanks.

Graduation Day
The Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi, celebrated its 50th Graduation Day on March 20. The chief guest was G. Aghila, Director, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi. In her address, she urged the students to embrace the future with confidence. Emphasising the significant role of education in empowering women, she highlighted the contributions of exemplary leaders such as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and astronaut Kalpana Chawla. Her address underscored how education equips individuals to break barriers and drive excellence.

The Department of English of Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, organised an awareness programme on ‘Women and nutrition’ on March 18.The resource person, M.Manimegala, Assistant Medical Officer, Government Hospital, Sivakasi, spoke on scientific aspects of women’s nutrition, including the impact of malnutrition, unhealthy eating habits, and lifestyle choices on women’s physical and mental health. She also provided valuable tips on how women can adopt better dietary practices to lead healthier lives. She encouraged the students to be proactive in seeking nutrition education and to be mindful of their dietary choices.
Placement drive
The Training and Placement Cell of Sri Krishnasamy Arts and Science College, Mettamalai, Sattur, organised a Campus Drive in collaboration with BULL IT Services, Sattur, on March 20. The drive saw enthusiastic participation from final-year students across various disciplines, eager to explore opportunities in the IT sector. It commenced with an introduction to BULL IT Services, offering insights into its work culture, career prospects, and recruitment process. The company’s hiring team conducted group discussions and personal interviews to assess candidates’ technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and communication proficiency. A total of 150 students participated in the drive. After the group discussion round, 85 students were shortlisted, and in the final stage, 69 students received spot offer letters.

The Department of Horticulture of Kalasalingam University, Srivilliputtur, organised a two-day conference on ‘Accelerating sustainable horticulture production’ recently. Suba Vasugi, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Virudhunagar district, offered felicitations. The chief guest was P. Irene Vethamoni, Dean of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. She spoke on hybrid seeds, nano materials packaging, water saving and reducing fertilizers in cultivation. As many as 175 research papers were received, and 150 farmers and 120 experts from across the country participated in the conference.
Fair held
Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Sivakasi, organised a two-day fair,’Kalpavriksha 2025’ recently. As many as 305 students from various departments manned 75 stalls which offered a diverse range of products, including dresses, fancy items, cool drinks, natural and traditional food items, sports items, palm tree-based products, natural oil items, seafood, and photography services. About 3,500 students and 300 teaching and non-teaching staff members visited the fair. The trade fair provided a platform for students to showcase their entrepreneurial skills, creativity, and innovation.
