Tortilla Chips is one of the most popular snack in Mexican cuisine. Tortilla Chips is made by cutting tortilla into triangles then deep frying or baking it finally seasoning it with salt. You can even add your favorite seasonings and enjoy. With a handful of ingredients you can make tortilla chips at home.
Use homemade tortilla or store bought ones as per your preference. I have used homemade corn tortilla for this recipe, you can use flour tortilla too. Traditionally tortilla chips is deep fried in oil until crisp but for a healthy variation you can bake it too – It is equally delicious.
I have shared both the versions of tortilla chips baked and fried. Though baked is a healthy alternate fried one tastes quite addictive just like the store bought ones. If you are making it once in a while then use the fried version else the baked version.
Tortilla Chips and Salsa are a great match made in heaven. But I love it just like that too. Both the kids are fond of homemade nacho chips and tortilla chips. Homemade tortilla chips turns out super crispy and addictive that too when made with homemade tortilla it is so good. Do try and enjoy!

Tortilla Chips Ingredients
- Tortilla – I have used homemade corn tortilla. You can use corn tortilla or flour tortilla as per the availability and preference.
- Oil – You can use any cooking oil preferably flavorless.
- Salt – Salt is added to taste but check and add as the tortillas already have salt in it.
- Other seasonings – You can even add other seasonings of your choice.

Baked vs Fried
Baked Tortilla Chips is healthy and equally delicious. It does not consume lot of oil as the fried ones. You can choose to bake or air fry them.
Fried chips is super crispy and when seasoned tastes so delicious just like store bought ones. Fried version comes out so light and crispy.

How to make Tortilla Chips Step by Step
Cutting tortilla
1.Take tortilla stack 2-3.

2.First cut into half.

3.Stack the halves.

4.Cut into triangles like this.

5.Separate them.

6.Repeat to finish all the tortillas.

Fried Tortilla Chips
7.Heat oil in medium flame. Add few cut tortilla into preheated oil. Add in batches do not over crowd.

8.Flip over and fry until golden.

9.Flip over and fry. Fry until golden on both the sides.

10.Drain oil and remove.

11.Repeat to finish and add it a bowl. Add salt, any seasoning if you want. Shake well and serve. Store in an airtight container and enjoy!

Baked Tortilla Chips
12.Preheat oven at 176 DEG C for 10 minutes. Arrange the cut tortilla on a baking tray. Brush it with oil on both the sides.

13.Bake in preheated oven at 176 DEG C for 2-3 minutes or until it turns golden brown.

- Cutting – Cut each tortilla into triangles. Small or big is purely your choice.
- Frying – Use flavorless oil for deep frying tortilla chips. Always fry in medium flame to ensure even frying. Do not over crown while frying. Fry in batches.
- Seasoning – It tastes great by itself but you can season it with salt or other favorite seasonings of your choice. Sprinkle salt soon after cooking. You can use kosher salt or flaky salt or even regular salt.

Serve tortilla chips as a snack. Store in an airtight container after cooling, they stay fresh for up to a week.
