NAMAKKAL: A flex banner bearing the image of the father of the Indian Constitution, B R Ambedkar, was damaged by unidentified people at Mangalapuram in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. The banner was erected at the Mangalapuram bus stand by local people on Sunday, on the eve of Ambedkar’s birth anniversary.
The banner was found torn when locals arrived there in the morning to observe Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. More than 50 people gathered on the Rasipuram-Attur state highway to protest. They demanded that police arrest people responsible for damaging the banner.
The protesters blocked the road for more than an hour.
The Mangalapuram police tried to pacify the protesters, but tensions escalated into an argument. Ultimately, the protesters agreed to disperse after police assured them that those who vandalized the banner would be arrested.
Based on a complaint from the public, the police registered a case and began investigations. They were checking CCTV camera footage from the area to identify the culprits.
