More women are choosing to stay single, and they’re happy about it: Study

More women in the United States are choosing to live life on their own terms. Instead of feeling pressure to get married, many are deciding that being single is just as fulfilling, and they’re proud of it.

According to a 2023 survey by Pew Research Center, nearly half of the women in the U.S. said marriage is not a key part of living a good life. This shows a big shift in how people view relationships today.

The idea of needing a partner to be complete is changing fast. A 2022 Pew survey showed that only 34% of single women were looking for a serious relationship. That’s a drop from 38% in 2019.

Another study, shared by the Aspen Economic Strategy Group, said that about 54% of women aged 18 to 40 were single. That’s more than half, showing that being single is more common than ever.

In the past, many women didn’t want to admit they were single, especially if they didn’t have kids by a certain age. But now, more and more women are talking about their single life proudly, especially online.

A TikTok video from the “Relationshit” podcast showed content creator Anne Kai talking about this change. She said, “I don’t think we give enough credit to single women who love being single because there’s still the whole childless cat lady troupe out there.”

She added, “You can enjoy life alone, you don’t need somebody to bear witness to your joy to make it exist.”

Many people agreed with Anne in the comments on the video. One person wrote, “Literally love being single. I move on my terms.”

The growing number of women enjoying single life shows that happiness can come in many forms, and marriage isn’t the only way to find it.
