Kalaburagi: A few days after the controversy erupted over students being asked to remove their janivara (sacred thread) during the Common Entrance Test (CET), a similar incident has now been reported in Kalaburagi, now during the NEET examination, sparking fresh outrage.
Sripad Patil, who had arrived to take the NEET exam on Sunday afternoon, alleged that officials at the examination centre asked him to remove his janivara.
“One official asked me to remove a thread on the hand, and then another asked if I had any other threads. When I told them that I had janivara, they insisted I remove it too,” Sripad told reporters.
He stepped out of the exam centre and handed over the sacred thread to his father before returning to write the test.
“I was disturbed by the incident and, in that stress, I ended up writing my roll number incorrectly,” he said.
Following the incident, members of the Brahmin community staged a protest and demanded action against the officials involved.
