Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya introduced Ranbir Kapoor to the audience. The star kid made his Bollywood debut with the film and managed to charm all. Since then, there has been no looking back for him. Though the film wasn’t a commercial hit, it served well to Ranbir Kapoor. He managed to establish himself as an actor. But did you know that he wasn’t the first choice for the role? Then who? Read on.

Smita Patil and Raj Babbar’s son Prateik Babbar (now Prateik Smita Patil) was the first choice to play Ranbir Raj in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2008 release Saawariya. The confession has been made by the actor himself. In an interview with entertainment news portal Bollywood Bubble, Prateik revealed that he received a call from the filmmaker for Saawariya. However, he could not do the film as he was in the rehab treating drug addiction. He mentioned that he was 18 years old and lost the film because he was away in rehab. He was quoted saying, “Yes, it is true. I was in rehab, unfortunately. I was 18 years old, and I was in rehab. Mr Bhansali called my landline. He wasn’t aware (that I was in rehab). I don’t think he was aware of how old I was either, because I was very young. I came to know a year or two later. My grandfather told me, Sanjay Leela Bhansali ka phone aaya tha uske bare me lekin aap hospital mein the (Sanjay Leela Bhansali had called about that, but you were in the hospital).”

Prateik also spoke about regrets in his life. He said that he regrets that his grandparents saw the worst of him. He shared that he was a ragging addict and his grandmother passed away seeing him like that. He wished that his grandparents could have seen the kind of man he is today.

Prateik Smita Patil made his Bollywood debut with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. The actor mentioned that he then attended Whistling Woods to study post the study. However, he got thrown out of the institution due to consumption of drugs. The actor also reflected on his journey and how he did not want to pick conventional roles.
