Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is committed to expanding its manufacturing footprints and product portfolio in the country. The Japanese automaker will also advance its adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) this year with the introduction of a new premium hybrid SUV and an electric midsize SUV. While these two product launches are confirmed for the second half of 2025, the Toyota Fortuner MHEV (diesel mild hybrid version) and the Land Cruiser Prado might also debut towards the end of this year. Let’s take a closer look at all key details of these upcoming Toyota SUVs.
Upcoming Toyota SUVs In 2025
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
Toyota’s first electric car for India recently made its public debut at the 2025 Auto Expo. Called the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, the midsize electric SUV is essentially Toyota’s version of the Maruti e Vitara, which is due for March 2025. Toyota will introduce its EV in the second half of this year. The powertrain of the Urban Cruiser EV includes two battery options – 49kWh and 61kWh – paired to a front axle mounted electric motor generating 143bhp and 173bhp, respectively. The torque output of both setups stands at 193Nm. The carmaker hasn’t yet revealed its range figures, but it is estimated to deliver over 500km in its higher spec version.
Interior of the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is likely to share a strong resemblance with the Maruti e Vitara. The feature list might also be similar for both EVs. As of design, the new Toyota electric SUV carries differently designed front fascia featuring slimmer headlamps with chrome surrounding connecting both units and a sporty bumper with two vertical air vents.

Toyota Hyryder 7-Seater
The Japanese automaker will introduce the three-row version of the Hyryder SUV near around 2025 festive season. It’s one of the much-waited upcoming Toyota SUVs in India. This new three-row SUV will surely be more expensive than its 5-seater counterpart. Details of this SUV are still under the wraps, though it is expected to have more cabin space to accommodate the third row of seat. To achieve enough interior space, the carmaker might stretch its wheelbase and overall length. The width and height are likely to remain unchanged. Interior could be upgraded with a new set of features to improve its value proposition.
The new Toyota 7-seater SUV is likely to source powertrain from the Hyryder. The latter comes with the 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and Toyota’s 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid setups, delivering power worth 103bhp and 115bhp, respectively. The SUV’s strong hybrid version will have an electric motor, delivering 79bhp and 141Nm. It could be the eCVT automatic gearbox similar to the 5-seater Hyryder.

Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is available in select global markets as the Land Cruiser 250. This SUV measures 4,920mm in length and 1,870mm in height and sits on a 2,890mm long wheelbase. Compared to its predecessor, it’s more spacious, bigger and capable. Under the hood, the Land Cruiser Prado features the 2.8L diesel engine (Fortuner-sourced), benefited with a 48V MHEV mild hybrid powertrain. In some global markets, the SUV gets a 2.4L petrol engine with hybrid technology. In India, it will be brought via CBU route and estimated to be priced around Rs 1 crore.

Toyota Fortuner MHEV
The Toyota Fortuner mild hybrid version was revealed early last year, with its launch in South Africa. The same powertrain setup could also be offered in India sometime this year. The South African-spec Fortuner MHEV shares resemblance with the Fortuner Legender, which is sold in India. While the former is available in multiple colour options, the India-spec version gets dual-tone White and Black paint scheme. Powering the new Toyota Fortuner MHEV is a 2.8L diesel engine paired to a 48V mild hybrid system offering an additional 16bhp and 42Nm. The combined power and torque out of the setup stand at 201bhp and 500Nm, respectively.
The carmaker claims that the Fortuner mild hybrid is 5 percent more frugal than the regular model that uses a 2.8L diesel engine. The SUV’s MHEV version is available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox along with the 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options. Toyota said that the new Fortuner MHEV also offers improved throttle response and smoother engine restart with the new idle start stop feature.
