Kapil Sharma, one of India’s most celebrated comedians, first rose to fame with his debut on Comedy Circus. From humble beginnings, he has paved an extraordinary path to become a prominent figure in Indian comedy and television. One person who has closely witnessed his journey to stardom is veteran actress, Archana Puran Singh. In a candid conversation with SCREEN, she opened up about their enduring friendship and the bond they’ve built over time.
Archana Puran Singh reflects on her journey with Kapil Sharma
Archana Puran Singh has shared the screen with Kapil for years, from her judgment days in Comedy Circus to becoming a familiar face on Comedy Nights with Kapil and now Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show. What began as a judge-contestant relationship has now blossomed into a genuine bond of humour and mutual admiration. Reflecting on her journey with Kapil Sharma, Archana shared:
“It was Comedy Circus where Kapil was a contestant like the other ten, our association started then. Who knew that it would carry so far? It was an association built on mutual respect, I was his senior and a judge on the show. From my side, the respect for him grew because I saw amazing talent, whenever I see that, I bow down to it for being so pure and powerful. I made the same bond with Krushna, Kapil, and it has now evolved into a family relationship.”
Kapil Sharma enjoys an incredibly private life
While millions of fans recognise Kapil Sharma as the charming and quick-witted host of his iconic comedy shows, he is surprisingly reserved in his personal life. The comedian values genuine, meaningful relationships over superficial industry interactions, which is why he rarely appears at Bollywood parties or public events. Talking about his reserved nature, Archana remarked:
“He is not comfortable with nine out of ten people, he is a very reserved person in his private life. He likes to keep things very private, you won’t see him doing a lot of publicity. You will just see him on shows; he doesn’t go to parties.”
Kapil and Archana’s bond over the years
Over the years, Kapil has grown so comfortable with Archana that their bond now feels more like family. Whether he’s visiting her home or she’s dropping by his, they’re both completely at ease in each other’s company. Despite coming from very different backgrounds, Kapil and Archana have found common ground in their shared love for comedy. This connection continues to strengthen their friendship both on and off screen. In Archana’s words:
“Kapil is now so comfortable with me… When he comes to my house, he is very comfortable. He is very comfortable if I just drop in at his house, now our relationship has become very casual, it’s based on mutual admiration… We both enjoy being around each other, we appreciate the same kind of humour. Though our upbringings have been completely different, we have connected and come together on a common platform of humour.”
On the professional front, Kapil is gearing up for the third season of his Netflix show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, whereas Archana has become increasingly involved in her family vlogs on YouTube. She has also taken up new acting projects such as Toaster.
