In a setback to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) ambitious project of establishing four integrated solid waste management plants, not a single bidder showed interest to participate in the tenders. The last date to participate in the tender process was January 22.
The BBMP invited tenders for end-to-end solution for waste management in the city which is currently tasked to many contractors. As per the tender details, door-to-door collection, transportation and processing would be assigned to the lowest bidders. And four integrated solid waste management plants would be set up at four different places on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The BBMP wants to do away with the present system of waste management.
A few contractors have also approached the Karnataka High Court challenging the tender. The HC, admitting the writ petition, has issued notices to BBMP officials and matter is posted for hearing on February 4.
