A fresh slate of Korean movies is about to hit the screens, led by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Kang Ha-neul, Yim Si-wan, Lee Min-ho, Ahn Hyo-seop, Kim Da-mi, and Park Hae-soo. With a mix of genres, from romance and sci-fi to action, fantasy, and disaster, the lineup showcases the range of Korean cinema. The list includes highly anticipated titles like Wall to Wall, Mantis, The Prophet: Omniscient Reader, and The Great Flood, as well as the animated films Lost in Starlight and KPop Demon Hunters. Here are six Korean films that we can’t wait to catch.
Lost in Starlight
Set in Seoul in 2050, Lost in Starlight follows the blossoming love between Jay, an artist, and Na-young, an astronaut, who promise to have each other’s backs even when Na-young has to leave for a space mission. With the lovers torn apart by millions of miles between Earth and Mars, they discover what it truly means to love someone across time and space. Written and directed by Han Ji-won, this heartfelt animated sci-fi movie starring Kim Tae-ri and Hong Kyung marks a milestone as Netflix’s first Korean animated film.
Release Date: May 30.
KPop Demon Hunters
Fueled by the world of K-pop, this film is a thrilling ride of action, fantasy, music, and comedy, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. Featuring an ensemble voice cast including Arden Cho, Daniel Dae Kim, Ahn Hyo-seop, and Lee Byung-hun, the film also boasts an original track by Twice’s Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung on its soundtrack. The trailer teases an epic showdown between good and evil, with the chart-topping K-pop girl group Huntrix leading a secret double life as demon hunters. But when the demons disguise themselves as rival boy band, the Saja Boys, and begin to steal Huntrix’s fans, the girls must face them head-on. What starts as a battle to protect their followers quickly escalates into a face-off that will determine the fate of humanity.

Wall to Wall
Woo-Sung (Kang Ha-Neul) pours all his savings into finally achieving his dream of owning an apartment, but quickly realises it’s a financial trap he can’t escape. Even as he struggles to pay off his mounting debts, a new problem crops up: he’s driven crazy by strange noises that seem to be coming from the other floors. With tensions rising and paranoia creeping in, Woo-Sung teams up with one of his neighbors to solve the chilling mystery of the unknown sounds in this thriller directed by Kim Tae-joon.

Mantis
Mantis (Yim Si-wan), a top assassin, wants to leave his old company and strike out on his own in the contract killing industry. But his former friend Jae-yi (Park Gyu-Young), who’s holding a grudge after being kicked out, and Dok-ko (Jo Woo-Jin), his ruthless mentor and an elite hitman, have other plans. Dok-ko wants Mantis back under his wing, setting the stage for a deadly clash of power, betrayal and survival. Directed by Lee Tae-Sung, this movie is packed with non-stop action and suspense.

The Prophet: Omniscient Reader
Director Kim Byung-woo’s action fantasy The Prophet: Omniscient Reader brings Sing Shong’s hit webtoon to life. The live-action adaptation follows Kim Dok-ja (Ahn Hyo-seop), a die-hard fan of the web novel Three Ways to Survive an Apocalypse, who knows the entire series and its ending inside out. On a fateful day, the fictional world collides with reality, and Dok-ja meets Yoo Joong-hyuk (Lee Min-ho), the novel’s superhero. Initially, Joong-hyuk is wary of Dok-ja, but they eventually team up to prevent the apocalypse that’s now at their doorstep.

The Great Flood
When a catastrophic flood threatens to wipe out the world, life hangs by a thread in a flooded apartment building on the verge of collapse. Inside, chaos and fear run rampant as the people inside fight for survival. Amid the mounting danger, security officer Hee Jo (Park Hae-soo) is hell bent on rescuing Anna (Kim Da-mi), a brilliant AI researcher. As the waters rise, his determination to save her grows stronger, raising deeper questions in this gripping sci-fi disaster film directed by Kim Byung-woo.
