Bovensiepen Zagato debuts with Munich munchings

It took a while, but the BMW M4‘s oversized Kidney grille eventually grew on people. Remember, when the second-gen M4 debuted 5 years ago, some were so upset that they were creating their own digital fixes for the grille, hoping to draw BMW’s attention and get it revised. It appears that one person took it to the next level and actually created their own version of M4, and it’s called the Bovensiepen Zagato. Either that, or Mr. Bovensiepen just didn’t know what to do after selling the Alpina brand to BMW.

For those who still didn’t get it, the Bovensiepen Zagato is a collaboration between Andreas Bovensiepen (founder of the Alpina brand) and Zagato. After selling the Alpina brand to BMW in 2022, it appears that Andreas went back to the drawing board, and the result is the Bovensiepen Zagato. It is essentially a re-bodied/re-skinned BMW M4, and I think Zagato has done a pretty good job. While the front-three-quarter angles may give off Audi vibes, the side, the top, and the rear-three-quarter angles look fairly unique. Notice the Zagato’s signature double-bubble roof; what’s interesting is that even the rear windscreen is also double-bubblified. The taillights appear to be fully stock.

Those 20-inch double-spoke forged wheels remind me of the wheels on the E90 LCI. Bovensiepen says that the exterior bodywork is entirely made of carbon fibre. Which means, it should weigh a bit less compared with the donor car. The 3.0-litre straight-six twin-turbo petrol engine in this application is claimed to generate 449 kW (610 metric hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft); 60 metric hp and 50 Nm more than the M4 CS.

The official 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is claimed to be 3.3 seconds, and the top speed is claimed to be over 300 km/h (186 mph). Specifically-tuned Bilstein Damptronic dampers are also part of the package. Rounding off the package is a bespoke, back-pressure reducing Akrapovič titanium exhaust system, claimed to be around 40% lighter compared with conventional systems.

Bovensiepen didn’t mention how many units it is planning to build, but I think it is safe to assume that it’ll be built in limited numbers. Therefore, buyers can bespoke their cars to their heart’s content. Options include a full Lavalina leather upholstery with 16 standard color options, plus a bespoke program. The leather can be combined with Alcantara, which is available in 45 additional colors. Each car is claimed to take 250 hours of labor.

Pricing is not disclosed, but the first deliveries are scheduled for the end of Q2 2026.
