The ever-growing SUV segment will witness the launch of multiple new models in the coming years. Within the segment, 7-seater SUVs are being increasingly preferred by customers, which comes down to the practicality, enhanced road presence, more cabin space and the advantage of an extra pair of seats. In line with this, let’s look at the upcoming ICE 7-seater SUVs in India.

Mahindra is currently working on the mid-cycle update of the XUV700 and it will be launched sometime next year. The facelift model could likely be dubbed the XUV7XO, as the name was trademarked by the company last year. Talking about the changes, an updated design, revised interiors and new features will be a part of the package. Under the hood, the familiar 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engines will continue to power the XUV700 facelift, mated to the option of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The new three-row SUV will share the CMF-B platform with the Duster, and it will measure 230 mm longer than the Duster with an extended wheelbase of 43 mm. Under the hood, the Boreal will share the powertrain with the Duster, including the 154 bhp 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine and the 140 bhp 1.6-litre petrol strong hybrid option is also under consideration for India-spec models.

Honda will introduce a 7-seater SUV in its India line-up and it is expected to be launched in 2027. Likely to be positioned above the Elevate, the upcoming 7-seater SUV will likely be the first model to be based on the new PF2 platform. The design and development of the three-row SUV is said to be handled by Honda’s Japan and Thailand-based R&D centres with major input from India. We expect the 7-seater SUV to get the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and strong hybrid engine options.

Internally codenamed Ni1i, Hyundai is developing a new 7-seater hybrid SUV for India. Expected to launch in 2027, the 3-row SUV will rival the likes of Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. It will be positioned above Alcazar in the brand’s line-up. The 1.6-litre strong hybrid setup doing duty in multiple Hyundai and Kia models internationally could power the 7-seater SUV. However, the Korean carmaker could plonk a hybrid system to its 1.5 NA petrol engine, in order to get a cost advantage, which will also be shared with the next-gen Creta.

5. Kia Hybrid 3-Row SUV

Based on the brand’s MQB EVO platform, it is essentially the 7-seater version of the latest Tiguan, which is currently selling in its R-Line guise in the domestic market. The India-spec Tayron will most likely use the familiar 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, putting out 204 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. It will be mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox with AWD as standard. We expect the Tayron to be priced at around Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
