A salt-free poultry seasoning to add flavors to your chicken, duck, and turkey meat cuts.
I have designed this spice blend with flavor, practicality, health (sodium reduced) and availability of spice pantry ingredients in mind.

TL;DR
I find commercially available poultry seasonings often lacking flavor and quality ingredients.
Many include salt and oils. Salt to add as a cheap ingredient and for umami flavor, and oil helps enhance the texture as it’s an anti caking ingredient. Oil also intensifies low-quality herbs and spice flavors.
You only need salt in your poultry seasoning if you use it as a rub. Salt can always be added extra to a dish. Besides, if your rub is without salt, just add the salt separately, which is a better option anyway, so that you can control the quantity of salt used in your food.
Therefore, this poultry seasoning calls for quality ingredients so that your seasoning adds more taste, and it’s salt-free so that you can adjust the salt quality to your personal needs and diet.

Ingredient Notes
All spices and herbs are dried and ground.
- Paprika Powder — Sweet or smoked, or both mixed. I like a mixed version. I use Hungarian sweet paprika and Spanish smoked paprika.
- Garlic Powder — I recommend a non-toasted version, which doesn’t cake.
- Onion Powder
- Thyme — Classic thyme will do. If you are adventurous, check out lemon thyme.
- Rosemary — Ground fine into a powder. If you have dried rosemary needles, toast them briefly in a dry pan, cool, and grind fine in a coffee mill or food processor.
- Black Pepper — Freshly milled, preferably.

How to make it?
Step 1
Place the dried measured spices into a small bowl.

Step 2
Mix the herbs together with a spoon until they are well incorporated.

Uses
You will love this seasoning rubbed or added to all your poultry meals. It adds a basic, well-balanced, flavor-profile, which most people enjoy and which i s super versatile.
Storing
If you store the seasoning in a jar, it will last for a few months. Ensure that the herbs are stored in glass jars with a high-quality seal to prevent them from becoming damp.
Most spice and herb mixes don’t have an expiration date, but mold can grow in a jar if it’s left out in the heat and humidity.
I suggest storing the poultry seasoning blend on a shelf that is visible to you, rather than in the back of your pantry cabinet and out of direct sunlight.
