Posthumous Padma awards conferred on Osamu Suzuki, Bibek Debroy, Sushil Kumar Modi


On the eve of the country’s 76th Republic Day, the Centre announced the list of recipients for the Padma Awards 2025 comprising 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri Awards.

Padma Vibhushan awardees include Late Osamu Suzuki, former Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation; Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy from Telangana in the field of medicine; Justice (Retd) Jagdish Singh Khehar from Chandigarh in the field of Public Affairs; Karnataka’s Lakshminarayana Subramaniam; Gujarat’s Kumudini Rajnikant Lakhia in the field of art. Late MT Vasudevan Nair from Kerala (Literature and Education) and folk singer Late Sharda Sinha (Art) have also been announced as Padma Vibhushan awardees, per the list approved by President Droupadi Murmu. It was published by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday.

Among the 19 Padma Bhushan awardees are: Late Bibek Debroy, economist, who served as the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, Late Manohar Joshi, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and textile industrialist Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti

BJP politician and former Deputy CM of Bihar Late Sushil Kumar Modi, and late Singer Pankaj Udhas have also been announced as Padma Bhushan awardees. India American engineer and entrepreneur Vinod Dham, film maker Shekhar Kapur, businessman Pankaj Patel and former captain of Indian Hockey national team PR Sreejesh will also be awarded Padma Bhushan.

“23 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 10 persons from the category of Foreigners / NRI / PIO / OCI and 13 Posthumous awardees,” the statement noted.
