Detective Sherdil Review

The story begins with the murder of Mr Pankaj Bhatti (Boman Irani), a wealthy millionaire businessman. He is survived by his wife, Adv. Bhatti (Ratna Pathak Shah), businessman son Angad Bhatti (Sumeet Vyas), deaf and mute daughter Shanti Bhatti (Banita Sandhu) and daughter in law. The scene shifts to the entry of Natasha (Diana Penty), a no-nonsense detective who is assigned the case. Her next move introduces us to Detective Sherdil (Diljit Dosanjh).

On reaching the Bhatti’s mansion, the detectives come to know that the late businessman’s daughter’s boyfriend, Purvak, has killed him and is missing. Also, the original will of Pankaj had been forged by the same suspect. Now, Detective Sherdil and his team need to solve the murder mystery of Mr Bhatti. Why did Purvak kill Mr Bhatti? What were his intentions? What was originally in the will? Is this just another drama over property? To know what happens next, read our review of Detective Sherdil.

What Works

Diljit Dosanjh definitely proved to be the best choice for this comedy drama. His quirky personality paired opposite Diana Penty who is a no-nonsense detective has been a fun pair to watch. The story line remains to be interesting and is an entertainment package. The bombshells dropped about the killer was new to watch.

What Doesn’t Work

Probably some of the acting seemed to be very force. The family suspense seemed very understandable. Some parts of the story were predictable. It would have been more appreciated if the use of some characters was more such as Chunky Panday and Sumeet Vyas.

Technical Analysis

Direction

The camera and lighting are in the right place. Direction wise it is film one can watch. As for the story line, it continues to intrigue audience with the questions dropped. The mystery does get you hooked on to continue watching.

Writing & Screenplay

The dialogue and screenplay is entertaining as a viewer. The way Diljit plays the mouth organ is definitely something different to watch, it’s a great addition to the character. Using not many flashbacks will help the audience stay focused on what is happening rather than losing interest.

Music

The music and background sound is apt for the scene. It’s definitely a likeable fact that this film is able to blend comedy with mystery and a little bit of the Bollywood drama. The sound isn’t just for fun and entertaining, but appropriate for maintaining the pace of the characters.

Star Performances

Diljit Dosanjh shines as a quirky detective who pays attention to detail. Diana Penty steps up as Natasha to help him solve the case. Boman Irani as usual aces every move and expression. Ratna Pathak Shah fits perfectly as an advocate.

Additionally, Sumeet Vyas does a good job as well, however, he could have been involved more in the plot. Banita Sandhu portrays a deaf and mute person and played it exceptionally well. Chunky Panday had a small role but he did justice to the character playing a key role in solving the case.

Conclusion

To conclude the review of Detective Sherdil, this comedy murder mystery starring Diljit Dosanjh in the lead is a must watch. It’s an entraining film where you do experience intriguing moments as well. Every character has a personality one would want to see.

The story touches upon themes such as deception, betrayal, family and a lot more. Some dialogues are impactful and drop hints to solve the mystery. All the actors have performed their roles well. Diljit playing the mouth organ is not something one would have expected.

We hope our review of Detective Sherdil will help you decide to watch it.
