What should have been a moment of celebration for actress Roma Arora turned into a frustrating ordeal. Known for her roles in Jhanak and Kundali Bhagya, Roma recently made her big-screen debut with Pyar Mei Qurban, a film directed by Zuber K. Khan, and co-produced by Imtiyaz Bhat and Mohammad Tasleem. Rather than basking in the joy of her Bollywood debut, Roman has now spoken out against the film’s producers, accusing them of failing to pay her dues and acting unprofessionally.
Opening up about her experience, Roma reportedly shared, “I began shooting for the project in January 2023. It was originally planned as a short film but later expanded into a feature. Despite my repeated requests, I was never given a contract or signing amount. The shoot wrapped up in September 2024, and throughout that time, my concerns regarding contracts and payments were completely ignored. I even let go of lucrative TV opportunities, which could have been great for my career, just to stay committed to this film. Towards the end, they blocked multiple dates for the last four days of shooting, only to cancel them later and remove some of my scenes because I insisted on having a signed contract.”
Roma further revealed to ETimes that while she was eventually paid around Rs 40,000 after demanding her dues before the second schedule, the full amount she was promised remains unpaid. “After nine months of shooting, I refused to continue without payment. In December, producer Imtiyaz Bhat transferred some money in instalments and later issued me a cheque of Rs 36,600, which bounced due to insufficient funds. Apart from this, I only received a token amount. To make matters worse, I spent nearly Rs 48,000 on my costumes for the film. Last month, Imtiyaz invited me to a promotional event in Kashmir, but despite my agreement and all the effort I put in, I was excluded at the last minute.”
She further said that the same thing happened during the Mumbai promotions, which left her feeling humiliated and disappointed. She alleged that the producers still owe her over three lakh rupees. “This whole experience has been a tough lesson—never rely on verbal assurances, and always get everything documented with a signed contract,” she explained.
On the other hand, producer Imtiyaz Bhat has denied Roma’s allegations, presenting his version of events. He said, “We have an email from her dated September 26, 2023, where she acknowledged that her dues were cleared except for Rs 36,600. I did issue her a cheque for that amount, but I had to stop it when she refused to do the dubbing. The agreement was that the balance payment would be made after the dubbing was completed. The plan was to finalise the dubbing and sign an official contract with her.”
He added that he didn’t personally cast Roma, Zuber did, but during filming, the two of them had a fallout and their constant arguments disrupted the shoot. At one point, he recalled he had to cancel a day of filming due to their conflict, which cost him heavily.
He further said that he is still willing to pay her the remaining amount, but the way she has handled this situation has been very disappointing. “My reputation is worth much more than Rs 36,600, and I would never risk damaging it over such a small amount,” Bhat added.
According to IMDb, Pyar Mei Qurban is a romantic action drama. It deals with the themes of love, relationships, fate and revenge. The film depicts a war between power and the fearless conventional fight of a common man who lost his younger brother and wife.
