More Power, Range & Bold Design

BMW has given its flagship electric SUV, the iX, a facelift, which will feature subtle yet significant changes in design, interior, and performance. The new iX will hit the roads in spring 2025 and will be manufactured at BMW’s Dingolfing plant in Germany starting in March. In addition to a revitalized exterior and interior, the new iX facelift offers powerful as well as efficiency upgrades, making it a more competitive vehicle in the electric SUV market.

iX Facelift: New Power and Extended Range

The new BMW iX is much more than just a face-lifted version; it equips customers with a full performance and range update through new battery configurations. In a ramp-up of its powertrain portfolio across the board, BMW ensured that all the new iX models provided efficiency, more power, and longer driving ranges.

  • iX 45: The new 94.8kWh battery powers the iX 45, which now boasts 402 horsepower and 700Nm of torque. That is 80hp and 70Nm more than the previous iX 40 model. It also has a WLTP certified range of up to 602 km.
  • iX 60: The middle of the range iX 60 comes with a larger 109.1kWh battery that pumps out 536hp and 765Nm of torque. This is 13hp more than the outgoing iX 50. With a range of up to 701 km, the iX 60 stands on top in terms of range among the updated models.
  • iX M70: The high-performance M version, the iX M70, takes a slightly smaller 108.9kWh battery but focuses on punch-over range. It delivers an astonishing 659hp and 1,100 Nm of torque when its launch control is actuated—49hp more than the previous iX M60. The iX M70 achieves a range of 600 km.

All three variants come with dual motors to ensure all-wheel drive, meaning the iX will deliver amazing performance across its powertrains.

Design Upgrades: Sharper yet bold

Design Upgrades: Sharper yet bold

The facelift of the iX is not that different from the previous model. However, the design changes give it a lot more presence on the road:

  • Kidney Grille: The new iX features a new grille design with horizontally opposed diagonal lines. An optional Iconic Glow Illumination for the grille adds a premium touch.
  • Front Bumper: The front bumper has been redesigned with larger air dams toward the center and slimmer vertical air intakes on either side, contributing to an enhanced aerodynamic profile.
  • Headlights: The headlights now sport a new diagonal LED signature, giving the iX a modern and aggressive look, reminiscent of BMW’s M4 CS.
  • Side Profile & Wheels: The side profile remains relatively unchanged, though there’s a new silver insert on the skirts. The 20-inch alloy wheels have been redesigned, with 21- and 22-inch options available for those opting for the M Sport package. The iX M70 can even be equipped with massive 23-inch wheels for a sportier stance.
  • Rear Design: At the rear, the most prominent update is a new bumper that features an integrated diffuser and subtly enhances the sporty look of the vehicle.

Interior Enhancements: Luxury and Comfort

Interior Enhancements: Luxury and Comfort

The interior of the iX facelift retains the luxury and high-tech ambiance the model is famous for, but BMW has made several key updates:

  • Steering Wheel: The steering wheel now boasts a more traditional round three-spoke design instead of the pentagonal two-spoke layout used in the previous model.
  • M Multi-Function Seats: Perhaps the most notable interior change is the introduction of BMW’s M Multi-Function seats, standard on the iX M70 and available as part of the M Sport package for the iX 45 and iX 60. These seats offer better lumbar support, enhanced backrest width, and active ventilation for greater comfort. The seats are available in premium materials such as Castanea natural leather and Amido natural leather, and M-specific stitching gives it a touch of exclusivity.
  • Other Comfort Features: The cabin has refinements to improve comfort and driving experience but is still more focused on sustainability and cutting-edge tech.

Powertrain Upgrades: A Step Up in Performance

The new iX will be offered with dual motors with all-wheel drive across the lineup. Every variant has better performance figures:

  • iX 45: With the 94.8kWh battery, the iX 45 makes 402hp and 700Nm of torque. This gives the new model a significant increase in power over its predecessor, meaning it should drive more energetically.
  • iX 60: This iX 60 comes with the larger 109.1kWh battery offering 536 hp and 765 Nm. It’s poised to find the balance between power and efficiency with its 701-km range.
  • iX M70: The M variant brings out 659hp and 1,100Nm of torque by optimized powertrain and bespoke battery chemistry. The performance tuning, specific to the M series, positions it as a performance SUV in the electric space.

Charging and Efficiency: Faster Charging Times

Charging and Efficiency: Faster Charging Times

As far as charging is concerned, the iX facelift continues to offer fast charging times:

The iX 45 fast charging goes as far as up to 175kW; it is still with 195 kW for both iX 60 and the impressive iX M70, this ensures minimal loss of downtime, especially if driving long distances during charging using fast-charging DC stations.

Availability and Launch Information

The new iX facelift is said to go international in spring 2025. It will arrive in the Indian market towards the end of 2025, and at this point, one can only expect the current model to be on sale in xDrive 50. The current iX comes in India, but whether all the variants or just one version of the facelift would make it here is still up for grabs. There has been no confirmation of the price for the iX in India, but the current model costs Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai), so the facelifted iX could cost almost the same depending on the variant chosen.
