MPVs are a popular breed of vehicles which allow buyers to travel around with their family and luggage due to massive space and practicality
In this post, I shall describe the 4 upcoming affordable MPVs in India. MPVs boast a practical cabin with acres of space inside. That allows large families to travel comfortably on long hauls. In fact, that is also why MPVs are some of the most successful commercial vehicles. Since the segment is widespread, there are multiple categories among MPVs. These could range from as low as under Rs 10 lakh to as premium and luxurious as over Rs 2 Crore. However, for now, we shall take a look at the lower end of the spectrum.
4 Upcoming Affordable MPVs in India
Maruti Ertiga Facelift

The Maruti Ertiga is the most successful MPV in the country. In fact, it finds application not just among the commercial fleet operators, but also among private individuals. In fact, to offer a slight distinction, there is also the Nexa counterpart of the Ertiga called the XL6. The aim is to offer a slightly more premium appeal to new customers. Now, the Ertiga has been due for a thorough update for a long time now. At present, we get the 2nd-generation model which was launched in 2018 and facelifted in 2022. We expect it to bear aesthetic enhancements and probably, the addition of some new-age amenities.
Apart from that, since it is just a facelift, I don’t expect any changes to the powertrain. Hence, it will continue to carry a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and the same engine with a CNG fuel option. These result in decent power and torque outputs of 103 PS / 137 Nm and 88 PS / 121 Nm, respectively. These mills pair with a 5-speed manual or an automatic gearbox with the petrol and a sole 5-speed manual transmission with the CNG. The MPV offers a mileage of 20.51 km/l with the manual, 20.30 km/l with the automatic and a cool 26.11 km/kg with the CNG. At present, the prices range from Rs 8.84 lakh and Rs 13.13 lakh, ex-showroom. We can expect a slight premium over these prices.
Kia Carens Facelift

Next up, we have the Kia Carens on this list of the 4 upcoming affordable MPVs in India. Carens has done incredibly well on the sales charts ever since its inception in our market back in 2022. It offers the customers a slightly more premium experience in comparison to something like the Ertiga. It bears modern tech and convenience amenities to pamper the customers. A facelift of the MPV has been due for a while now. I expect it to carry some cosmetic enhancements along with new-age tech and convenience features inside the cabin.
Under the hood, it will most likely bear the same powertrain and transmission as the existing model. This means a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which generates a familiar 115 PS and 144 Nm, a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol mill which churns out an impressive 160 PS and 253 Nm or a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine which produces a healthy 116 PS and 250 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Performing transmission duties will be a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT, a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed DCT automatic. At present, it ranges from Rs 10.60 lakh to Rs 19.70 lakh, ex-showroom. There will be a slight premium over these with the facelift.
Renault Triber Facelift

Then we have the Renault Triber facelift. It is one of the most affordable MPVs in the country. In fact, that has been its prime appeal since the beginning. Recognizing the mindset of the price-conscious consumers, the French auto giant launched the Triber back in 2019. It became an instant success for the brand due to its attractive price. Being a sub-4m MPV with 3-row seating, people flocked to buy it due to its practicality and affordability. Now, it requires a facelift with a fresh exterior and the addition of new-age amenities inside the cabin.
Apart from that, we know that it draws power from a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine which generates a decent 72 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque, respectively. This mill pairs with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Hence, people get all sorts of options depending on their needs. With the 3rd-row seats folded, the boot space is a healthy 625 litres. At the moment, it retails between Rs 6.10 lakh and Rs 8.97 lakh, ex-showroom. You can expect a minor premium over these prices with the facelift version.
New Nissan MPV

Finally, we will even witness a new MPV from Nissan in India. We know that the two automakers share their products in India. They use badge-engineered cars like the Magnite-Kiger. In a similar vein, we will soon get an MPV from Nissan which will be based on the next-gen Renault Triber. Hence, the powertrain and transmission options will be similar. However, the exterior styling and interior layout will be distinct. These are the top 4 upcoming affordable MPVs in India.
