Volvo Cars India recently launched the updated 2025 Volvo XC90 SUV in the Indian market. The latest model boasts a refreshed exterior design, an upgraded interior, enhanced features, advanced technology, and improved driving dynamics. Customers can book the new XC90 online or at their nearest dealership, with deliveries set to commence soon. The Volvo XC 90 is offered in a single Ultra variant and a single petrol engine priced at Rs 1.03 crores (ex-showroom). The BMW X5 is offered in five variants – X5 xDrive40i, X5 xDrive30d, Basic line, X5 xDrive40i M Sport, X5 xDrive30d M Sport and two engine options priced from Rs 97.8 lakh and Rs 1.12 crores, respectively, ex-showroom. The X5 starts at a lower price point Rs 97.8 lakh but can go up to Rs 1.12 crore, offering a broader price range, whereas the XC90 is positioned at Rs 1.03 crore (all prices ex-showroom).

Comparing the dimensions, the new Volvo XC 90 measures 4953 mm in length, 1931 mm in width, 1773 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2984 mm. It has a ground clearance of 237 mm and a boot space of 302 litres. The X5 measures 4935 mm in length, 2004 mm in width, 1765 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2975 mm. It has a ground clearance of 214 mm and a boot space of 650 litres.

Volvo XC 90 vs BMW X5: Engine options
The 2025 Volvo XC90 is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, mild-hybrid turbo-petrol engine that puts out 250 hp of power and 360 Nm torque. The engine comes paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels. Volvo claims the SUV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 180 kph.

The BMW X5 gets two engine options – a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbo petrol engine which puts out 375 hp of power and 520 nm of torque. Another engine is a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder, turbo diesel engine which puts out 281 hp of power and 650 nm of torque. Both engines come paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and send power to all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive system. Both engines get an electric motor producing 12hp and 200Nm of additional torque. The X5 petrol can sprint from 0-100kph in a claimed 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kph. The diesel X5 can sprint from 0-100kph in a claimed 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 230 kph.

The new Volvo XC 90 gets three interior colour options – Charcoal, Cardamom and Blond.
