Electric car sales in India have seen a significant improvement in the last couple of years. Earlier, the limited availability of affordable EV models and inadequate charging infrastructure played a big role in why people preferred ICE cars over EVs. Moreover, the various incentives rolled out on the purchase of all-electric cars by the Union government and several state governments is also one of the biggest reasons for rising sales numbers in this segment. Here, we have listed the top 5 budget friendly electric cars in India.
1. MG Comet EV

Earlier this month, MG Motor India launched the 2025 Comet EV in a price range of Rs 6.99-9.81 lakh (ex-showroom) in the domestic market. Available in a total of six variants namely Executive, Excite, Excite FC, Exclusive, Exclusive FC and Blackstorm Edition, it houses a 17.3 kWh battery pack as standard (17.4 kWh for FC variants). The small hatch delivers a range of 230 km on a single charge while having a maximum power of 41 bhp and peak torque of 110 Nm. It is the most affordable electric car in India.
2. Tata Tiago EV
Tata Motors introduced the 2025 Tiago EV in January in a price bracket of Rs 7.99-11.14 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Offered in four trims namely XE MR, XT MR, XT LR and XZ+ Tech LUX LR, it comes with two lithium-ion battery options: 19.2 kWh for MR variants and 24 kWh for LR grades. The mid-range (MR) variants return 223 km on a full charge while the long-range (LR) derivatives come with 293 km driving range. All the four variants boast of multiple ride modes as standard features.

3. Citroen eC3
The French automaker retails the eC3 electric car at a starting price of Rs 12.76 lakh in the Indian market while the range-topping model costs Rs 13.53 lakh (Both the prices are ex-showroom). It can be availed in five trim levels namely Feel, Shine, Shine Vibe Pack, Shine Dual Tone and Shine Dual Tone Vibe Pack. All these get a 29.2 kWh battery with driving range of 246 km (MIDC cycle) as standard. Citroen eC3 is also compatible with DC fast charging as it takes only 57 mins for a 10-80 percent juice up.
4. Tata Punch EV
Positioned between the Tiago EV and Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV is sold in a price domain of Rs 9.99-14.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) in our country. The all-electric micro-SUV is available across eight grades namely Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Adventure S, Empowered, Empowered+, Empowered S, and Empowered+ S.
The standard variants of the Punch EV are equipped with a 25 kWh battery with range of 265 km (ARAI-certified) while the long-range (LR) trims get 35 kWh battery pack with driving range of 365 km (ARAI certified). However, the actual range numbers for the former are somewhere around 190-210 km while the latter can be driven between 270-290 km, as claimed by Tata Motors.

5. MG Windsor EV
Launched in Sep 2024, MG Windsor EV is offered across three grades namely Excite, Exclusive and Essence at price points of Rs 13.50 lakh, Rs 14.50 lakh and Rs 15.50 lakh, respectively, in our market. The official bookings for the e-SUV began from Oct 3, 2024 and soon it became the highest-selling EV model for two consecutive months.
The Windsor EV packs a 38 kWh lithium ion battery pack with a driving range of 332 km (ARAI-certified). The electric motor coupled with the battery dishes out top power of 134 bhp and highest torque of 200 Nm while four driving modes are there in the form of Eco+, Eco, Normal and Sport. MG Motor India is offering a lifetime battery warranty for the first owners.
