Tata Motors will launch two electric SUVs in 2025 i.e. the Harrier EV and Sierra EV; Maruti’s first electric car will also go on sale this year
It seems like 2025 will be the year for electric cars as multiple new models are lined up for a launch in the Indian market. Almost all the major car manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Kia, MG and Mahindra will debut new EVs this year. Some of the upcoming models have already been officially unveiled, such as the e Vitara, Harrier EV, MG Cyberster and M9 while others will be revealed at the time of launch. In line with this, let’s look at the top electric cars launching in 2025.
1. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara
Maruti Suzuki officially unveiled the e Vitara in the Indian market at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo early this year. Expected to launch this month i.e. April 2025, the home-grown carmaker’s first electric car in India will be available with two battery pack options i.e. 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The larger battery pack will deliver a claimed range of over 500 kilometres on a single charge. The e Vitara is based on an all-new born-electric skateboard platform, the Heartect-e.
2. Tata Harrier EV
Tata Motors has already taken the wraps off the much-awaited Harrier EV and it is expected to launch this month i.e. April 2025. Based on the brand’s Gen 2 Acti.ev architecture, the electric SUV uses a heavily modified electric-specific version of the current OMEGA-Arc platform.
While the powertrain details are under wraps, the company says that the electric Harrier will have 500 Nm of peak torque. In addition to this, a dual-motor AWD setup will also be a part of the package. Once launched, the Harrier EV will rival the likes of Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and Hyundai Creta Electric amongst others.

3. Tata Sierra EV
The Tata Sierra was unveiled in its near-production guise at the 2025 Auto Expo in January. Expected to go on sale in the second half of 2025, the Sierra will get both EV and conventionally-powered ICE versions. The model showcased at the auto show was the ICE Sierra. The SUV will likely be launched in its electric guise first and recently, its test mule was also spotted testing in India.
In terms of design, the electric Sierra will sport minor exterior design changes as compared to the ICE model, such as a blanked-off front grille, tweaked front bumper and a different set of alloy wheels amongst others. While the powertrain details are under wraps, we can expect a claimed range of over 500 kilometres on a single charge from the Sierra EV.
4. Mahindra XEV 7e
Mahindra’s next big electric SUV launch will be the XEV 7e. The electrified version of the XUV700 is expected to debut in the second half of 2025. The images of the electric SUV have already been leaked online, revealing the design which seems quite familiar to the concept version. The XEV 7e will likely be offered in two battery pack options i.e. 59 kWh and 79 kWh with rear-wheel-drive as standard. It is expected to get a proper 3-row seating configuration with both 6 and 7-seater layout.

5. MG Windsor EV Long Range
The MG Windsor EV was launched in September last year and despite being a competent product, its relatively small 37.9 kWh battery pack leaves a lot to be desired for the buyers looking for a longer range. In order to address this concern, MG is planning to launch a 50 kWh battery pack option of the Windsor EV which is already on sale in some international markets. Expected to launch this month i.e. April 2025, the long-range version will come with claimed figures of 460 kilometres on a single charge.
6. MG Cyberster Electric Sportscar
Expected to launch in the coming weeks, the MG Cyberster has already been officially unveiled in the Indian market. The pre-bookings of the electric sportscar have also commenced. The Cyberster EV will rival the likes of BYD Seal EV, Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 in the Indian market. MG’s first sportscar in India will get the top-of-the-line 77kWh battery pack option, paired with two electric motors putting out 544 bhp and 725 Nm of peak torque. The AWD variant has a claimed range of 580 kilometres on a single charge and can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in just 3.2 seconds.
7. MG M9
MG recently commenced the pre-bookings of the M9 in the Indian market. Expected to launch soon, the MPV was officially unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo in January. In India-spec version of the all-electric M9 premium MPV will come with a 90kWh battery pack. The power output figures stand at 245 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque with a claimed WLTP of 430 kilometres on a single charge. Once launched, the MG M9 will rival the likes of the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire in the Indian market.
8. Kia Carens EV
Scheduled for a launch around mid-2025, the Carens EV has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The Carens EV will share its design with the New Carens which is due for a launch later this month. With EV-specific design changes on board, the electric Carens will likely sport a blanked-off front grille, aero-efficient wheels, EV badging inside out and more.

In terms of features, a 360-degree parking camera, panoramic sunroof and Level 2 ADAS are expected to be the new additions. While the powertrain details are not known yet, the Carens EV is expected to share the battery pack and electric motor with the Hyundai Creta Electric, claiming a range of over 400 kilometres on a single charge.
