Mahindra will launch its 7-seater electric SUV, the XEV 7e in the second half of 2025; much-awaited Tata Sierra is also on the cards

Tata Motors and Mahindra are two Indian manufacturers that have seen exponential growth in the past few years. This growth can be attributed to the new product launches in the SUV segment, which were well received by Indian customers. In order to continue the momentum, Tata Motors and Mahindra will launch multiple new SUVs in 2025, including all-electric models. In this article, we will look at the upcoming Tata and Mahindra SUVs launching this year.

1. Tata Harrier EV

Tata Motors officially unveiled the Harrier EV at the 2025 Auto Expo earlier this year, and it is expected to go on sale next month, i.e. June 2025. The electric SUV will be underpinned by the brand’s Gen 2 Acti.ev architecture, which is a heavily modified electric-specific version of the current OMEGA-Arc platform.

While the powertrain details are under wraps, the company says that the electric Harrier will have 500 Nm of peak torque. In addition to this, a dual-motor AWD setup will also be a part of the package. Once launched, the Harrier EV will rival the likes of Mahindra BE 6, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and Hyundai Creta Electric, amongst others.

2. Tata Sierra EV

The Tata Sierra was unveiled in its near-production guise at the 2025 Auto Expo in January. Expected to be launched in the second half of 2025, the Sierra will be sold in both EV and conventionally-powered ICE versions. The SUV will likely debut in its electric guise first, followed by the ICE model. The electric Sierra will sport several exterior design differences, such as a blanked-off front grille, tweaked front bumper, a different set of alloy wheels and more, as compared to the regular model. Inside the cabin, the SUV is expected to get a triple-screen layout along with the familiar 4-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo.

Under the hood, the Sierra will likely be powered by the new 1.5-litre tGDi petrol and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines. On the other hand, the Sierra EV’s powertrain details are under wraps, however, we can expect a claimed range of over 500 kilometres on a single charge.

3. Tata Punch Facelift

Tata Motors gave a major update to the Punch last year, particularly in terms of features. We expect a full-blown mid-cycle facelift of the Punch to launch by the end of 2025, as the test mule of the micro-SUV has already been spotted a few times. The facelifted Punch will likely share the exterior design with Punch EV, and the same can be said for the interiors. However, it is important to note that these are just speculations. Mechanically, the Punch Facelift will remain the same with a familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood, along with the CNG fuel option.

4. Mahindra XEV 7e

Mahindra is preparing to launch the all-electric version of the XUV700, and it will be dubbed XEV 7e. Expected to go on sale in the Indian market later this year, the images of the electric SUV have already been leaked online, revealing the design, which seems quite familiar to the concept version.

Based on the skateboard INGLO electric architecture, shared with the BE 6 and XEV 9e, the EV SUV will likely be offered in two battery pack options, i.e. 59 kWh and 79 kWh. The XEV 7e will initially be launched in a rear-wheel-drive configuration. It is also expected to get a proper 3-row seating configuration with both a 6 and a 7-seater layout.

5. Mahindra XUV 3XO

The Mahindra XUV3XO EV has been long due in the Indian market, and its test mule was spotted on multiple occasions last year. Internally codenamed S240, the electric compact SUV will be positioned below the XUV400 EV in the brand’s line-up, squarely aimed at the Tata Nexon EV and upcoming Kia Syros EV.

It will share its design with the ICE XUV3XO, albeit with some electric-specific touches. The XUV3XO EV will likely borrow the battery packs from the XUV400EV, including the 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh units, however, nothing can be confirmed as of now.  We expect the upcoming Mahindra electric SUV to be launched at a starting price of around Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
