Kia has announced the launch of Clavis premium MPV for the Indian market. It’s essentially the updated Carens with slightly revised styling, more features and a more premium positioning within the segment. Aiming to create buzz among buyers, the carmaker has released a teaser video highlighting some of its key design elements and interior features. What are the engine options for the Kia Clavis?
The Clavis premium MPV is likely to share its powertrains with the existing Kia Carens. The latter one comes with three engine options – a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel. The naturally aspirated and turbo petrol engines deliver claimed power outputs of 115bhp with 144Nm and 160bhp with 253Nm, respectively. The diesel unit returns a maximum power of 116bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options will also be carried forward from the current Carens – i.e. manual, torque convertor automatic, iMT and DCT automatic.
What is the launch date of the Kia Clavis Electric?
Kia also plans to launch the electric iteration of the Clavis, which is expected to arrive a few months after its ICE counterpart.

Visually, the Clavis will look slightly different from the existing Carens. The teaser reveals a new front fascia featuring a slimmer grille, a redesigned bumper and new headlamps. It might also come with the differently designed, dual-tone alloy wheels, a revised rear bumper and connected taillamps.
What will be the seating capacity of the Kia Clavis?
The Clavis is expected to come with 6 and 7-seating configuration options, similar to the existing Carens. The Carens 6-seater version offers captain seats in the second row, available only with the Prestige (O), Gravity and X-Line trims. The 7-seater layout is offered in the Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury Plus and X-Line trims.
What will be the price of the Kia Clavis?
Compared to the existing Carens, which is available within the price range of Rs 10.60 lakh – Rs 19.70 lakh, the Clavis will certainly be priced higher. Its prices are expected to start around Rs 11 lakh for the base variant.
