This might seem like an unusual comparison at first, but there is a lot of substance in this
In this post, we come up with an interesting comparison between the Maruti Alto K10 and MG Comet. Both of these are, essentially, the entry-level cars, albeit with completely different powertrains. On the one hand, the Alto K10 has been the go-to vehicle for millions of first-time buyers in the country. Its overall capabilities, including features, mileage, running costs, etc., are some of the reasons why people prefer it over any other car. On the other hand, the MG Comet is a micro electric car which is primarily for city usage. The fact that it is an electric car means that the running costs will be extremely low.
Maruti Alto K10 vs MG Comet
This video stems from Anubhav Chauhan on YouTube. The host has the two cars with him. During his walk-around tour of these two cars, he mentions that the Comet looks much smaller in comparison to the Alto K10. Even when he sits in the rear seat of the two cars, he explains that the passengers will definitely be more comfortable in the Alto K10. Furthermore, the Comet doesn’t offer a healthy or usable boot space or a spare tyre. In contrast, the rear seat of the Alto K10 is much roomier and the luggage space is handy too. Hence, the overall space is definitely more on the Indo-Japanese car.
In terms of features, both these are heavily equipped. However, I reckon the MG Comet is an incredibly feature-laden product, especially at this price point. Some of its top highlights incorporate:
- 10.25-inch Infotainment Display
- 10.25-inch Digital Instrument Cluster
- LED Headlamp and Taillamp

Similarly, the Maruti Alto K10 also offers tons of new-age amenities to pamper the occupants. The top features are:

Specs and Price Comparison
The MG Comet contains an IP67-rated 17.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which powers the electric motor to generate a decent 41 hp and 110 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The main point of relevance is the 230 km of claimed range on a single charge. With a 3.3 kW AC home charger, the EV takes 7 hours to charge fully. However, with a 7.4 kW charger, this duration comes down to just 3.5 hours. The EV retails between Rs 7.36 lakh and Rs 9.86 lakh, ex-showroom, with the battery pack. However, if you wish to rent the battery, the prices start at Rs 5 lakh. That is due to the industry-first BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service), which lowers the initial cost of owning an EV significantly. Also, the running cost, as per the host of the video is Rs 0.5 per km, which is among the lowest in the country.

On the other hand, the Maruti Alto K10 is available with multiple powertrain options to ensure that the needs of all sorts of buyers are met. This includes a 1.0-litre petrol and 1.0-litre petrol + CNG engine. These generate a healthy 66 hp / 91 Nm and 55 hp / 82 Nm of maximum power and torque. The petrol mill is available with either a 5-speed manual or an AGS (AMT) transmission, while the CNG variant can only be had with the manual. The prices range from Rs 4.23 lakh to Rs 6.21 lakh, ex-showroom. In this case, the host claims a running cost of Rs 4 per km.
