The limited-run 2025 BMW M2 CS uses the upgraded 3.0L straight six twin-turbo engine now producing 530 hp and 650 Nm
The most compact BMW M coupe has been sharpened further with the arrival of the 2025 M2 CS, a limited-run variant that sits above the standard M2. Production is scheduled to take place at BMW’s Mexican plant in San Luis Potosí which also builds the regular model. The car will be offered in small numbers with most allocations heading to customers in the United States, Germany and China.
Deliveries are expected to begin by late summer 2025. In Germany, the M2 CS will be priced from €115,000 (Rs. 1.10 crore). The all-important performance comes from the familiar 3.0L straight-six, twin-turbocharged petrol engine but output has been pushed to 530 horsepower – 50 more than the regular M2. The power level now matches that of the M3 Competition and M4 Competition when fitted with the xDrive all-wheel drive system.
The CS sends all its power to the rear wheels through an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission fitted as standard and paired with Drivelogic shift logic for faster gear changes. There is no manual option. BMW has also removed around 30 kilograms of weight helped by replacing numerous panels and interior elements with carbon-fibre reinforced plastic.
The roof, bonnet, front splitter, boot lid, diffuser and parts of the centre console all make use of the lightweight material. In addition, the standard forged alloy wheels also reduce unsprung mass. In this configuration, the CS becomes the lightest current-generation M2 available. The powertrain benefits from multiple revisions too.
The total torque output climbs to 650 Nm, peaking between 2,650 and 5,730 rpm while the maximum power is delivered at 6,250 rpm with the engine redlining at 7,200 rpm. Engineers have also altered throttle sensitivity across all driving modes improving response during part-throttle and full-throttle use. It must be noted that much of the tuning work draws directly from racing experience gathered with the M4 GT3 EVO.
It includes software calibration and mechanical improvements. The powertrain uses a closed-deck block, a forged crankshaft and a 3D-printed cylinder head core while turbocharging comes via a pair of mono-scroll turbos, each feeding three cylinders. The supporting systems include an electronically controlled wastegate, a high-pressure 350-bar direct injection system and a dedicated intercooling loop.
The oil circuit features map-controlled pumping to maintain stable lubrication under lateral loads while cooling is managed by track-proven thermal modules. As a result, performance figures improve across the board as it does zero to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds, or 3.5 seconds when measured with a 1-foot rollout. The car reaches 200 kmph in 11.7 seconds while in-gear acceleration from 80 to 120 kmph takes only 3.4 seconds.
The top speed is electronically limited to 302 kmph – made possible through the standard-fit M Driver’s Package and the exhaust system features active flaps and quad matte-black tips. An optional M Performance titanium system with carbon-fibre finishers can be specified for reduced weight and sharper acoustics.
The adaptive M suspension system has been retuned with updated damper curves, revised control software and a lower ride height. The front and rear axles carry custom geometry setups as well amongst a host of other upgrades including carbon ceramic discs and rubber. It boasts 19-inch alloys up front and 20-inch rims at the rear in a gold bronze finish, though a black version can be specified.
On the outside, the M2 CS receives carbon roof and mirror caps joined by CFRP-made front splitter, ducktail rear spoiler and diffuser. The kidney grille is trimmed in gloss black and the rear carries an exclusive CS badge with red detailing. The M Carbon bucket seats are trimmed in Merino leather and Alcantara with CS branding below the headrests and harness pass-throughs built into the backrests. The steering wheel has Alcantara and features a flat bottom, red centre marker, M paddles and programmable M1 and M2 buttons while the dash and tunnel trims are finished in open-pore carbon fibre.
