Maruti and Toyota will launch multiple electric and hybrid cars later this year in the Indian market

Maruti Suzuki and its Japanese counterpart Toyota are all set to launch several new cars and SUVs in the Indian market later this year. It has been confirmed that besides the ICE-powered vehicles, both the brands will also launch their first fully-electric models in the domestic market. In addition, the duo of Maruti-Toyota will continue their hybrid onslaught by introducing this tech in multiple existing vehicles in our country. In this piece, we will talk in detail about the upcoming Maruti and Toyota cars launching this year in India.

1. Maruti e-Vitara

Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever electric SUV for the Indian market will finally go on sale by Sep 2025, confirmed R C Bhargava, Chairman, MSIL. Though the e-SUV had its public premiere in India amidst much fanfare at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year, the deliveries have been delayed due to multiple battery supply and software issues. The company has already stated that most of the units produced this year will be used for export purposes. Maruti e-Vitara will boast of 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options in the domestic market.

2. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

Unveiled at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, the Urban Cruiser EV is Toyota’s version of Maruti e-Vitara. Though we saw it in concept form at the Expo earlier this year, the Japanese brand has revealed the production-ready version in several global markets. It is expected to go on sale at least three months after the e-Vitara, i.e. around Dec 2025. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will share the 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs with the e-Vitara and one can expect a driving range of 500+ km with the bigger battery on a single charge.

Maruti Suzuki is readying its new flagship SUV based on the Grand Vitara for India. The new 7-seater SUV has been spotted multiple times during its test runs and it has been learnt that it will be launched by the end of 2025. It will undergo series production at the company’s Kharkhoda facility in Haryana. The new SUV will be bigger in length to accommodate the third row of seats while features are expected to be carried over from standard Grand Vitara. It will be offered with mild-hybrid as strong-hybrid powertrains choices for the buyers.

Toyota will also have its derivative of Maruti’s 7-seater Grand Vitara based SUV. Tentatively titled as Hyryder 7-seater SUV, it will be developed alongside the Maruti SUV at the Kharkhoda plant in Haryana. It will share cabin, seats and features with the Maruti’s 7-seater Grand Vitara which also includes ADAS tech. The engine and other technical specs will also be similar to the Maruti 7-seater SUV with the 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol engine with Atkinson strong hybrid setup at the helm. In addition, there will also be a naturally-aspirated 1.5L petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech.

5. Toyota Fortuner Hybrid

Toyota is planning to introduce a hybrid version of its best-selling SUV, the Fortuner, in the domestic market. It is likely to go on sale in the next couple of months in India with subtle visual updates, besides the hybrid powertrain. The ongoing model’s 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine will be paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system which churns out an additional 16 bhp and 42 Nm of top power and peak torque, respectively. It will also have an improved mileage of 13.15 kmpl above the non-hybrid version which returns 12.65 kmpl.
