Honda, finally listening to the voice of automotive enthusiasts in the country, has finally decided to bring the globally loved performance hatchback, its Civic Type R, for the first time to India and plans to launch it by the end of 2025. Here’s a list of Civic Type R features that set it apart from the regular Civic, which has been previously launched in the Indian market. The new Civic, currently in its 11th gen, was launched globally in 2021; however never made it to India, but unlike the older Civic sold in India, which was a sedan, the  Type R would be available as a front wheel drive liftback with 330bhp in taps.

Exterior

The Honda Civic Type R is the performance variant for the Civic, and comes with a few but very noticeable exterior changes from the usual Civic to be able to be easily distinguishable. 

  1. Sportier Front Look: The design of the Honda Civic Type R follows the regular sedan overall, with a blacked-out grille, flanked by slim LED headlamps and LED lighting signatures. 
  2. Better Aerodynamics: Below the bumper, there is a large air dam for cooling and air channeling, as well as a full-width splitter.

With high performance, Honda has also incorporated a high level of safety features in the Civic Type R, including some of these features are: 

  1. Honda Sensing Features: This suite of features enhances the overall safety and reduces driver errors, with features like Forward collision braking, Lane departure warning, etc.
  2. ACE body structure: A Honda-developed body structure especially designed for occupants’ safety in various crash scenarios.
  3. Airbags: 6 airbags as standard in all variants.

Honda City has been a popular name among sedan enthusiasts; thus Honda has decided to give these enthusiasts a sedan worth the hype,  with a special edition as Honda City Sports, which recently launched at 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom). This variant is based on the mid-spec V variant, and comes with a few interior and exterior upgrades for a sharper and sportier look.  Here’s a list of upgrades you get with this edition:

Exterior

  1. Sharper Front: Honda City Sports gets sharper LED Headlamps with a black grille panel and a blacked-out fog lamp housing.
  2. Sportier Side View: The new sports variant can be distinguished from the regular city easily by having a look at all black 15-inch alloys instead of regular silver alloys and the ORVMs, which also come with ba lack finish instead of the usual body color. 
  3. Aggressive Rear: However, the design remains the same as regular city, along with the badging “City” on the left side, the “Sports: badging on the right side, what sets this variant apart is the black glossy lip spoiler on the boot lid.

Interior

Honda City Sports 

Instead of the usual black/white theme inside the car, Honda has chosen to give the Sports variant a Black/Red theme, which could add a feel of a performance-oriented car and even complement its blacked-out exterior.

  1. Ambient lights: Not only the red accent and a black leather seat with red stitching, but Honda has also added an ambient light along the dashboard of the car for a bold feel.
  2. Black seat cover: The car seats come with black seat covers, with front seats fully finished in black and have red stitching, giving them character. 

Except for these changes, the powertrain options and overall features of the car remain the same as the mid-spec V variant of the car, like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-inch screen, push button start, etc.

Honda’s Vision for EV Cars

Although Honda is not launching any of its EV cars in 2025, it is expected to launch its new Honda Elevate EV car in 2026. Due to market uncertainties, Honda is focusing on its EV cars along with Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). Honda’s vision is clear as they are aiming and strategizing their plan for 100% EV cars by 2040. Honda is now developing a new EV model, which is totally different from the Elevate, to serve the Indian market.

1. Honda Elevate EV 

Honda’s plan to enter the EV market in India is likely to be with an electric version of its already successful Elevate SUV. With strategic pricing in mind, Honda is expected to launch this by mid-2026, putting forward in the market a strong competitor with the likes of Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400, Hyundai Creta EV, and Sn upcoming Vitara EV, or even with Mahindra’s new EV6. With an expected price range of somewhere between 18-22 lakhs, Honda is expected to pack in features like:

  • Driving Range of 400-450 km
  • Support for Fast Charging
  • Minimalist but feature-rich dashboard and digital cluster
  • A dedicated Honda Connect-like app for EV-specific features like charging point locations and many more.

2. Hybrid mid-sized SUV

Honda, at the beginning of 2025, showcased its ZR-V e: HEV at the annual dealer convention in India. This raised speculations about the hybrid model being considered for launch in the Indian market, but nothing has been confirmed by Honda. But this doesn’t mean they aren’t planning for a Hybrid SUV in India, with Honda claiming an under-development Elevate-based Hybrid model for India.
