It looks like Maruti Suzuki has done a commendable job in ensuring that its latest vehicles meet the high standards of safety of the customers
The new Maruti Dzire has received the certificate for being the first 5-star rated sedan at Bharat NCAP. That is a huge achievement, particularly for the Indo-Japanese car marque, which has not done too well on this parameter in the past. Dzire is the most successful sedan in the country. It has been around since 2008. Private individuals, as well as commercial fleet operators, have been buying it for over 15 years now. Even today, the demand and appeal of the sedan are at an all-time high. The certificate was awarded to Maruti officials by Mr. Nitin Gadkari – Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India.
New Maruti Dzire is India’s First 5-star Sedan at Bharat NCAP
Note that the Dzire already secured a full 5-star safety rating at the Global NCAP a few months ago. Now, it has been able to replicate that performance at the Bharat NCAP as well. The compact sedan scored 5 stars in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 5 stars in Child Occupant Protection (COP) category with 29.46 points out of 32 and 41.57 points out of 49, respectively. The standard equipment list includes 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts at the rear, seatbelt pretensioner, seatbelt load-limiter, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (UN GTR No.8 / UNECE R140 / AIS-133), pedestrian protection (AIS-100) and seatbelt reminder (AIS-145). All these factors contributed to the overall scores.
Talking specifically about the AOP department, the total score incorporates 14.17 points out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 15.29 points out of 16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. The Side Pole Impact Pole Test was rated ‘OK’. This resulted in a full 5-star rating. Similarly, the COP section encapsulates a Dynamic Score of 23.57 out of 24, a CRS Installation Score of 12 out of 12 and a Vehicle Assessment Score of 6 out of 13. This is good for a full 5-star safety rating.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “It is heartening to see Hon’ble Minister’s passionate and concerted efforts towards road safety. Bharat NCAP brings to India the stringent vehicle testing protocols that will help customers take informed decisions. Our gratitude and appreciation to the Government of India and all the testing agencies for their commitment and efforts in this direction. We are honored to receive the prestigious Bharat NCAP certification today.”
Also, Nitin Gadkari commented, “It gives me immense pride to see Made-in-India high volume mainstream cars achieve exemplary safety ratings under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program. This program incorporates rigorous and comprehensive, testing and evaluation standards that are comparable with global safety protocols. It is aimed at raising safety awareness among customers in the country. I congratulate Maruti Suzuki on an impressive debut in Bharat NCAP, securing a 5-star safety rating for the All-New Dzire.”
