Captain America Brave New World Review: Marvel’s Not-So-Brave Dud

RATING – ⭐ ⭐ 2/5*

Captain America Brave New World Review Movie Talkies:

Since I don’t go along well with the Marvel India’s PR team, I had to skip the media screening and watch it on my own. Frankly, there were fewer expectations for Captain America Brave New World as the film was released during the dull phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back in time, I used to watch  their films with full houses and sometimes half full, but this time, it was notably low. There are hardly two or three MCU films that have been well-received since Avengers: Endgame (2019), and that’s why Marvel has kept declining. The OTT platforms have made it a home affair for many, and they lost their cine-goers after that. With the new film featuring the new Captain America, it doesn’t feel new at all and is not so brave either. It’s the same old dish served on your table with a different name, but it tastes stale.

Captain America Brave New World Review

Captain America Brave New World story:

An arms race begins in the search for a new metal called adamantium, and they enlist the help of Sam Wilson, aka Captain America (Anthony Mackie). The US president, Mr. Ross (Harrison Ford), makes a treaty with Japan and commands Sam to bring the Avengers back. Isaiah (Carl Lumbly) attacks the president, but it is revealed that he wasn’t himself during the course of the action, and then the president breaks ties with Wilson. Our Cap is on a quest to find something that will save Isaiah and learns about the “mind control” trick used by cellular biologist Mr. Stern (Tim Blake Nelson). Sam aims to stop him from causing destruction and destroying the reputation of the president but what if the president has his own hidden secrets?

Captain America Brave New World Review

Captain America: Brave New World has a dated script, but it’s more of a big bore when it comes to its on-screen exploration. The introduction of Red Hulk should have been a surprise, but they spoiled it in the trailer to create buzz. That harms the excitement of the narrative. Throughout the film, you know what’s going to happen, and you just wait for the entry of Red Hulk. It appears, and the film ends, leaving you thinking, “Okay, was that all?” It’s that half-baked. The number of surprising elements is too low here, and therefore the film never excites you with its ideas and world. You know every move of Sam, and frankly, he didn’t make any smart moves that can be called “good moves.” Maybe one or two powerful action sequences, and that’s all there is to it.

Captain America Brave New World Review

The performance of Anthony Mackie is the only saving grace, but individually, it’s not a great job. He has done better in previous movies and even that TV series than in this. Harrison Ford, as a mentally unstable guy, was too much to take for almost two hours. His transformation scene also lacks depth. Danny Ramirez and Shira Haas support Anthony in keeping the show going, while Tim Blake Nelson was slightly surprising as the main antagonist. Liv Tyler reappears as Betty for one scene, and Sebastian Stan reprises his role as Bucky in another. The rest are hardly noticeable.

Captain America Brave New World Review

The film does not include too many action scenes, which is why it becomes a bit boring in the middle. The dialogues aren’t very catchy, but the editing was fairly good. The visual effects look bad in the climax scene between Hulk and Cap, which should have been the major highlight of the film. Instead, it becomes the biggest drawback. Julius Onah’s direction lacks vision and aggressiveness. He could have added some conversations to make the film engaging and crisp, but he chose to rely on clichés instead. The MCU is already suffering, and this adds another piece of mediocrity for their fans. The film ends with the line, “Captain America will be back,” but I am asking, “Do we really need him back again after this disappointing show?”
