Chandan Roy Sanyal On Intimate Scenes

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Chandan Roy Sanyal talks about filming intimate scenes. He says, “So obviously Prakash Ji hai, itne saalo se, itne experience se baade director hai, toh sabse pehele set pe toh koi reheta nahi, sirf Chandan tha joh humara DOP hai, Prakash Ji the aur shayad costume wali ladkiyaan thi set pe, so that Aaditi feels comfortable. Aaditi is also a very professional actor, like I was saying before we did the scene, I spoke to her a lot of times, I tried to win her confidence off screen also. Aap dekhiye yeh joh show hai, mera aur Aaditi ka joh rishta hai, Swami ka joh kirdaar badalta hai woh kisi ne expect nahi kiya tha ki ek aadmi joh itna kruur hai, woh ek capitalist hai…” (Prakash Ji, a highly experienced director, kept the set minimal—just Chandan, our DOP, and a few costume assistants for Aaditi’s comfort. Aaditi is very professional, and I built trust with her off-screen. Swami’s unexpected transformation from a ruthless capitalist surprised everyone.)

Chandan On Making Co-Stars Comfortable

“So before the show I was to win her confidence, over the months we were shooting, we became good friends, we shared food, a lot of experiences from life so we became good friends, so once you get the confidence your co-star that is a lady, aur woh bohot zaruri hota hai kyuki, duniya aaurto ke liye mushkil hai, so you have to function from a place of love, affection, care, so I said to myself, ‘Whatever I do with my co-actor, it’s from a space of love, affection, care.’” (Prakash Ji, an experienced director, kept the set minimal with just me, our DOP, and a few costume assistants for Aaditi’s comfort. Aaditi is highly professional, and I built trust with her off-screen. Swami’s transformation from a ruthless capitalist was truly unexpected.)

“When I was doing that part, I believed Bhupendra is a good person, so joh isstarah ke scene haina of intimacy, people did not expect I would bring so much of human touch and care and people of got thrown off because ek ghante baad mai logo ko patak ke maar raha tha. So yeah it’s all because of the actor, director, aur hum yeh pichle 5 saal se kar rahe hai toh ek bond ban gayi hai, sab family hai, everyone down to the spotboy, joh khana laata hai, toh woh space hi alag tha, Prakash Ji ne alag hi space de diya, so she felt protected, she felt this actor can be trusted toh that’s why it worked.” (When playing Bhupendra, I saw him as a good person. So in intimate scenes, I brought a human touch that surprised people—especially since an hour later, I was throwing people around. It’s all about the actor, director, and the bond we’ve built over five years. The set felt like family, and Prakash Ji created a space where Aaditi felt safe and trusted me, which made it work.)
