Jasmine Bhasin has always grabbed attention for her pretty and glam looks. However, being a public figure she has too been under constant scrutiny. A few months back, Jasmine was accused of getting botox and fillers done when her lips looked plumped in a video. She even reacted to unrealistic beauty standards set by the industry for women.
Jasmine Bhasin on beauty standards in industry
Talking about beauty standard set by industry, she said, “Actress kaisi dikhni chahiye”—ye statement humne bhi bade hote hue suna hai. And honestly, there’s nothing entirely wrong with it, because our mothers and that generation were such dedicated women. For them, sacrificing for their family and children wasn’t a big deal. That was a generation that didn’t really focus on fitness, health, or self-care in the way we talk about it today.”
She added, “And we all come in all shapes and sizes, but films mein ek glamorous visual dikhaya jaata hai—ke heroine patli hogi, gori hogi, achha dance karegi. Is tarah ka ek visual banaya jaata hai. But sirf woh visual sachchai nahi hai. Us visual ko banane ke liye bahut effort lagta hai. Aapko achhe kapde pehnaye jaate hain, diet pe rehna padta hai. Ab ye sab achieve karna everyday is not possible for a normal human being. (But in films, a certain glamorous image is projected—the heroine is expected to be slim, fair, and a great dancer. This kind of visual is constantly portrayed. But that image is not the whole truth. It takes a huge amount of effort to create that look—there are teams of people involved, you’re dressed in the best clothes, and you’re often on a strict diet).”
She further admitted, “Toh ye sab beauty planet humne hi banaye hain, aur hum khud hi ismein ulajh gaye hain. Aur mujhe toh aisa lagta hai ki is wajah se hum bahut bade consumers ban gaye hain. We are spending a lot of money. All the brands are taking advantage of this and we are just endlessly spending money. I am also one of those, it’s the truth. But as long as aap apne aap se khush ho, andar se, that is the most important thing.”
Jasmine on botox and plastic surgery rumours
Reacting to rumours of actresses facing scrutiny, she said, “I don’t know why people care so much. If something makes me feel better, more confident, boosts my self-esteem, then what’s wrong with that? If I’ve spent my whole life feeling like something is lacking in me, and I choose to fix it—what’s the issue with that? Why do people look down on others for it? Everyone deserves to live fully and be happy. And if something helps boost your self-confidence, then what’s wrong with that. Everyone knows what’s right or wrong for themselves, what they like or don’t like. If someone feels they’ve crossed a line they shouldn’t have, they should be aware of that too. But simply fixing or improving something because it makes you feel better—I honestly don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.“
Jasmine even reacted to accusations of her getting botox and surgery done. Jasmine clarified, “Usmein galat kya hai? Everyone has their own body, their own face, their own needs. Whoever wants to get something done, should be free to do so. Recently, my name got linked to this topic too. I received a lot of messages on Instagram under one of my photos and videos, saying things like, “Jasmin has done her lips,” “Jasmin has had something done,” and so on. But there was nothing like that. Actually, I had swelling from an incident, and that day the makeup artist had overlined my lips a lot. Which I actually liked at the time, because even on Instagram filters, lips tend to look slightly plumper. But later I realized that look didn’t suit my face. It was just the over-lining, and that’s why everyone assumed I had something done.”
The actress concluded, “And as I grow older, my face will change, my body will change—some changes will happen naturally, and maybe some I’ll choose to make. People might say things then too, but that’s okay. What matters is that I feel good and I feel pretty. I always want to look my best, and if I ever do anything, it’ll never be to harm myself—it’ll only be to make myself feel better. And if something ever goes wrong, then fine—go ahead, troll me. People troll you no matter what—whether you do something or not. So if something makes you happy, then go ahead.”
