Twenty-six families lost someone dear to them, among whom was a 35 year old man, Bharat Bhushan, who pleaded with the terroists. However, his plea fell on deaf ears and he was shot to death.
Bharat Bhusan begged the terrorist to spare his life
The cruel attack in Pahalgam has left the entire nation anguished. Now, the wife of one of the victims, Bharat Bhushan, Dr. Sujatha Bhushan has come forward to share the horrid account of how her husband was murdered in front of her and their child. Dr. Sujatha Bhushan in a conversation with NDTV, revealed how her husband, Bharat Bhushan was shot dead in front of her and their three-year-old.
Bharat Bhushan had pleaded with the terrorists to let him go, not for himself, but for his three-year-old child. However, his requests fell on deaf ears and his child was ripped off of their father. The victim’s wife, Sujatha revealed that the three of them were hiding behind the tent, but could still see the horrifying act unfolding in front of them.
Sujatha recalled how terrorists started shooting men. She revealed that they would ask them something and would then shoot them in the head. Sujatha saw the same thing happen twice before they reached her husband, who begged the terroists to spare his life as he has a little child. However, they shot him and left. She was quoted as saying:
“I couldn’t hear what he was saying. But then, near our tent, I could hear, ‘How can you enjoy vacation when our children are suffering?’ He said, ‘Haven’t you seen the news? How could you just enjoy yourselves like this…’ to an elderly man and then shot him in the head also, then another. He came to my husband… and he didn’t even speak. He just shot him. My husband was requesting him, ‘I have a child… please spare me’. But he just shot him and left…”

Pahalgam victim, Bharat Bhushan was on a vacation with his wife and child
According to eyewitnesses, the attack began around 2:30 pm on the afternoon of April 22, 2025. The terrorists swarmed the meadow and began executing people. As the Bhushan family realised what was going on, they ran for cover. However, as they were in the middle of the open ground, they found none and soon realised they were stuck. Dr. Sujatha Bhushan, in an interaction with NDTV, revealed that they were on vacation and Pahalgam was their last stop. She was quoted as saying:
“We went for the vacation on April 18. Pahalgam was our last stop… we went up to Baisaran that day on pony rides and, when we reached, we took photographs and played with our child. We tried out Kashmiri costumes… then suddenly we heard lots of shots…”
In the same conversation with NDTV, Sujatha revealed that at first they thought that the shots were being fired to drive away wild animals. However, soon they realised that they were under attack, but with every hiding spot was too far away, so they found shelter behind the Kashmiri tents. She was quoted as saying:
“Initially we thought they were just driving away birds or wild animals… but the noise kept continuing and getting closer. Then we realised this is not typical… this is an attack. You know how Baisaran is… it is a large field and we were right in the middle. Anywhere we tried to run, it is quite a far distance to the perimeter. So we started hiding behind tents, the Kashmiri tents, set up in the middle of field.”
