Kapkapiii revives the fading charm of the horror-comedy genre after a string of underwhelming attempts in the recent time. With a title as quirky and desi as it gets, this film invites you to experience its full spooky thrill—ideally in an air-conditioned cinema hall, where even the chills feel more real and the jump scares can send you flying out of your seat. It’s your Kapkapiii (shaking) experience.

This is a fun-filled entertainer laced with youthful energy and comic chaos. Based on the acclaimed Malayalam hit Romancham (2023), Kapkapiii stays remarkably faithful to the original while enhancing the humor quotient through witty Hindi dialogues and punchlines. Watching it on the big screen, especially with a group of atrangi friends, will make it even more enjoyable and laugh-worthy.

Kapkapiii Story:

The story revolves around a group of friends who, out of boredom, decide to conduct a seance using a carrom board as a makeshift Ouija board. When their ghost-summoning experiment appears to fail, they turn it into a prank—pretending it worked. They name the ghost Anamika, and surprisingly, she starts giving eerily accurate answers. As word spreads, their bizarre “seance business” booms. However, their fun soon takes a dark turn as strange and unsettling incidents begin to occur. They try to stop—but does the spirit let them? That’s where the mystery deepens, and the final act delivers several surprises you won’t see coming.

Visually, Kapkapiii is genuinely spooky. The chilling sound effects and good camerawork contribute significantly to the eerie atmosphere. The screenplay, however, falters a bit. It’s somewhat jumbled and lacks a tight narrative structure for a theme that deserved a bit more depth. Still, the realistic and emotionally engaging conclusion ties up loose ends, while also leaving you with a cliffhanger that hints at a possible sequel. The character of Anamika is one of the most fascinating elements—each scene involving her or the ouija board is filled with big laughs and unexpected thrills.

Kapkapiii Cast:

Tusshar Kapoor enters the film late but immediately takes control of the screen with his comic timing, evoking memories of his beloved Golmaal avatar. Shreyas Talpade also delivers a solid performance, and together, they shoulder much of the film’s success. The supporting cast—Jay Thakkar, Abhishek Kumar, Varun Pandey, Dherendra Tiwari, and Manmeet Kaur—adds depth and brings charm to this ragtag group of friends.

Except for the somewhat slow opening and a single song, the film hardly offers a moment to glance at your watch. The dialogues—particularly the one-liners—land well, and the background score effectively complements the tone, shifting between fear and fun with ease. The emotional finale adds weight and sentiment, making for a heartfelt tribute to the late Sangeeth Sivan.
