The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) demands a ban on Pakistani artists, including actors like Fawad Khan and Hania Aamir. The association has strongly condemned the remarks made by the artists following Operation Sindoor.
Following horrifying terror attacks at Pahalgam, the Indian army launches a responsive strike at nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir at midnight on May 7. The strike was directed at several terror camps across the borders, and the country was responsible for training the terrorists and funding them in numerous terrorist activities across India.
In response to the successful operation, Pakistani actors, including Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, criticized India’s action and called it cowardly. However, the artists from Pakistan are facing heavy backlash and boycott calls after the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) condemned their remark regarding the operation. The association has pushed Indian entertainment industry to stop blindly backing these artists in the name of art.
On May 7, AICWA released its official statement on X (formerly Twitter), criticizing Pakistani actors’ response to the Indian Operation Sindoor. The statement reads, “The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) strongly condemns the anti-India statements made by Pakistani actress Mahira Khan and actor Fawad Khan, who have openly criticized India and questioned the nation’s actions in defense of its sovereignty. Mahira Khan labeled India’s military response as a “Seriously Cowardly” act, while Fawad Khan, instead of condemning terrorism, focused on criticizing India’s stance and supporting divisive narratives.”
The media release further added, “The statements are not just disrespectful to our nation but also an insult to the countless innocent lives lost due to terrorism and the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our country. AICWA reaffirms its strict and complete ban on Pakistani artists, filmmakers, and financiers working in India. No Indian artist will collaborate with any Pakistani talent, nor will any global platform be shared with them.”
Talking about the ongoing backlash faced by Pakistani artists, AICWA also urged the film industry to stop favoring Pakistani artistes in terms of work. They said, “It is time for the Indian film industry to understand that blindly supporting these artists under the pretext of art is a betrayal of national pride. Some individuals in our industry continue to show sympathy and support for Pakistani artists, ignoring the sentiments of our nation. AICWA urges these individuals to stop supporting those who openly disrespect India. This is not just about art—it is about standing with your country during critical moments. Our nation must come first (sic).”
Cine has also trolled Indian filmmakers for promoting films featuring Pakistani actors. Cine called out Abir Gulal, starring Pakistani star Fawad Khan, and tagged it as ‘a shameful example.’ Cine post reads, “AICWA strongly condemns the filmmakers, producers, and artists of the film “Abir Gulal” for casting Pakistani actor Fawad Khan despite the Pulwama attack, where several Indian soldiers were martyred. What message do such filmmakers want to convey? They even came to India to release this film, showing complete disregard for the nation’s sentiments. This is a disgrace to the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers.”
In the end, AICWA pushes all stakeholders in the Indian film industry including Hollywood, Tollywood, regional and other industries to respect the statement and prioritize national interest over any collaboration.
