Currently, the war-like situation between India and Pakistan is ruling the headlines. After the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian Armed Forces carried out Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps in the neighbouring country. Since then, there is an escalation in military exchanges. Many Bollywood and TV celebs have commented on the tense situation and applauded the bravery of India’s Armed Forces. Amid this, a story of an actor who served in Indian Army has gone viral. This actor joined the Indian Army to fight in Kargil War. He trained under Maratha Light Infantry and convinced the Defence Minister to let join the army during the war.

The actor we are talking about is Nana Patekar. Not many know that apart from being an impeccable actor, he has also served the nation during the Kargil War. This is something he himself revealed when he appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati 16. The three-time National Award winner explained that back in 1990s, he trained with Maratha Light Infantry of the Army for three years. He did so to prepare for his movie Prahaar. It was the time when Kargil War broke out. Nana Patekar then approached the senior officers with a request to let him join the soldiers on the frontlines. However, it wasn’t possible without the permission of the Defence Minister. Nana Patekar said, “I knew our Defence Minister George Fernandes ji, so I called him. Even he said it was impossible. I told him that although the training for a commission is six months, I trained for three years. He was surprised and asked me about it. After learning about my experience with the Maratha Light Infantry, he asked, ‘When do you want to go?’”

As per the reports in entertainment news sites, Nana Patekar spent over a fortnight on the frontlines near the Line of Control (LOC). Reports suggest that he assisted soldiers and worked in the hospital at the base. Nana Patekar also revealed that he lost almost 20 kilos during his time with Army.

On the work front, Nana Patekar will next be seen in Housefull 5. He will be sharing the screen space with Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez and many others.
