Bollywood goes strategic this time with a comedy thriller released in two distinctive versions! Titled Housefull 5, this film is the fifth instalment of producer Sajid Nadidawala’s popular slapstick comedy franchise “Housefull”.

Presenting the Housefull couples: Akshay Kumar with Nargis Fakhri (Center), Abhishek Bachchan with Jacqueline Fernandez (Left), and Riteish Deshmukh with Sonam Bajwa (Right)
Making its theatrical debut on June 6, 2025, the comical drama features an ensemble cast of popular Bollywood actors and actresses led by the Khiladi, Akshay Kumar. It has been written and directed by Tarun Mansukhani.
Housefull 5 (2025) Synopsis:
A tale of comic misadventures follows on a luxury cruise ship as a billionaire named Ranjeet Dobriyal (Ranjeet Bedi) gets murdered by a mysterious masked man. Chaos, comedy, suspense, and multiple climax twists unfold as the passengers in the ship, including the three “Jollys”, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, and Riteish Deshmukh, and two comical police officers, Bhidu (Sanjay Dutt) and Baba (Jackie Shroff), try to unravel the murder mystery.

The Good:
Housefull 5 is a comical murder-mystery thriller which has been released in two separate versions, having separate climaxes, Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B. These two versions of Housefull 5 reveal different murderers.
A chaotic whodunit, comical twists, and unexpected turns unfold, which add unpredictability and thrill to the screenplay. This helps in retaining the excitement among the audience regarding the murder mystery and keeps them engrossed in the first half.
Moreover, certain dialogues and physical gags in the movie are sporadically funny, which can make you laugh your head off. The performances of most of the male actors have a great comic sense as well as timing. Also, the visuals sparkle with elegance.

The Bad:
To be honest, even if certain instances are funny, Housefull 5, overall, is a vulgar and cheap sex comedy. Sounds disappointing, but true. Many among the audience are of the opinion that Akshay Kumar should be banned from acting after this, as he seems to be spreading vulgarity and obscenity in Hindi cinema in the name of comedy. We might need a national sense of humor check, if Bollywood thinks this is what comedy should be like.
Disappointingly, the character of Akshay appears repetitive as he has become used to doing similar comical roles with the same kind of punches in his previous movies. He has already acted in four prequels of the Housefull franchise, and there appears to be no change or anything special in his character’s style or behaviour in Housefull 5. Certain instances during the second half of the screenplay lack the humorous consistency and struggle to maintain the energy that made it a bit boring.
After a series of mega flops, Akshay might have tried to bring out something unique, but in that pursuit, he appears less like a hero and more like a pervert. I think, in this age, he needs to stop doing vulgar, perverted, and Casanova scenes on screens, just to gain some attention.
The Romantic Track “Dil E Nadaan” from Housefull 5
Housefull 5 is a mad-hatter comedy film sans any logic. You will need to leave your brain back at home to watch this. There are a dozen lead actors, including Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, and Nana Patekar. Even if they acted well, most of them have resorted to vulgarity and obscene punches. The performances of the lead actresses, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Sonam Bajwa, are below average, and they appear as mere decorative showpieces in this movie, and are there just to add glamor. They literally have nothing much to do except play along with the vulgarity portrayed. Talking about objectifying women, this film leaves no stone unturned in doing so.
Watching this with your family? Never even think of it!

The Verdict: Not An Over-the-Top Comedy That We Had Expected!
I have to say, pulling such a massive star cast within one movie is no joke. It takes a lot to bring justice to all the characters in the film when you have such a huge pool of talent. In the effort to bring justice to every actor and actress in Housefull 5, the makers have resorted to making it extra fancy and vulgar. I guess they might have thought that doing so would enhance the hype of this film. But unfortunately, it has ended up spoiling its reputation.
Moreover, I heard many people saying that the Housefull franchise has redefined Hindi entertainment by releasing its fifth instalment in two separate climaxes. But honestly, I find it to be a clever marketing tactic to enhance the movie’s ticket sales.
The movie has a big budget, and the makers had yet another strategic approach to enhancing its earnings. They promoted this film to have a huge production budget of INR 375 Crores, whereas in reality, it was later revealed that its making budget was just INR 225 Crores.
Overall, Housefull 5 is a considerably funny, appreciably thrilling, and yet, an overstretched piece of drama in its second half that promises to be an epitome of mindlessness. In short, if you don’t enjoy illogical and vulgar comedies, this is not a movie for you.
