If you’re a Panchayat loyalist, you’ll stand by the cast and crew till the eighth and final episode, which is setting up the show for another season. If you’re just another Prime Video subscriber who has tuned in to the show as it was #trending on social media, you’ll maybe have a different tale to tell. That’s what perhaps the makers are also saying to the show’s admirers as they set Panchayat for season five, which will mark another chapter in the politics of Phulera.

The cast clearly gives their all, attempting to elevate the material, but unfortunately, the writing doesn’t rise to meet them. Panchayat Season 4 feels like a missed opportunity, banking heavily on nostalgia and familiar faces without offering much new. What was once a heartwarming and insightful slice-of-life series now feels like it’s running out of steam.Unless the makers tighten the storytelling and bring back the depth and humour that made the earlier seasons so beloved, the future of Panchayat looks uncertain.

It is possible that some degree of déjà vu has crept in because of the Panchayat wannabes, including TVF’s own Gram Chikitsalay. Still, there are very few Web shows in which the actors simply own the characters they play. There is a Season 5 built into the finale of this one, and it does look like sachivji will have to look sharp and keep his wits around him.

Phulera mein phool ke paas ab kaanta aa gaya hai,” says Raghuvir Yadav, and the line sums it up. The show has changed. It’s not the same soft, slow-paced, comfort story it used to be – politics and chaos now occupy more space. But does it still make you feel something? Yes, absolutely. Despite the noise, Panchayat still brings moments that warm your heart and make you smile. And as Raghuvir Yadav again says at the end, “Hamara dabdaba tha, hai, aur lagbhag hamesha rahega,” it reminds us – Phulera and its people still have that hold over us. Even if things are messier now, it still feels like home

Panchayat started out as a charming series, rooted in rural Indian life. What captured the viewers attention are its lovable characters, nuanced writing and gentle humour. It was a break from shows that rely on violence and shock values to hook audiences. Its story and sequences had a lived-in authenticity that made the series relatable even to the urban viewers. However, the world of Phulera, as we knew it, has been disrupted—and not in a good way.

The season ends on an open note, making it unclear whether another one is planned. It could end here, or continue. Despite relying on the same patterns, ‘Panchayat’ remains a comfort watch. It captures a world where people are driven by genuine concerns—whether it’s Bhushan offering to arrange an electrician for the faulty transformer or Abhishek running to get water after Bhushan is injured. The show doesn’t aim for grand twists or emotional highs. It’s gentle, lived-in, and this season is no different—just don’t expect major plot developments.
