Last month when I published the ‘Street Singer Songs’ list, I excluded the songs which are either picturised as procession songs or the romantic songs that are picturised on streets. I covered the procession songs in the last month itself.
I’m glad the previous posts received appreciation by readers.
It’s time now for the second list, that’s Romantic songs picturised on streets.
As compared to procession songs, these songs were a bit difficult as one needs to rely solely on one’s memory to confirm it. And to my surprise (and disappointment), I had to disqualify many songs, which I had thought were befitting.

And, when I say picturised on road, it’s unlikely, I soon gathered, to find songs picturised on road in the entire length. Still I tried to find as many as I could.
A few years back, I published a ‘rain songs picturised on road’ post. I selected just a couple of songs from that post as rain songs form a small part of such songs. In a few of the songs, the couple moves from the road to a garden or a club etc. So these songs are not picturised on streets in their entire length.
The songs usually fall in one of the two categories,
- A couple singing romantic song, could be a solo or a duet
- Teasing/ Pestering/ Stalking songs, sung not necessarily only by the male protagonist
I know, the second category can’t be exactly termed as romantic. In a few of the songs, we come across faux anger by the heroine. And in the majority of films, such attempts by him/her ultimately end up in love. So this category is a part of today’s post.
Let’s visit the list. The songs are randomly arranged, no specific order.
Couple singing romantically on street –
1. Pyar Hua Iqraar Hua Hai – Shree 420 (1955) Lata Mangeshkar & Manna Dey / Shankar Jaikishan – Shailendra
What could be the best example but this one! Nargis and Raj Kapoor sharing a single umbrella, and getting drenched, on a rainy night, strolling on the streets. They confess their love to each other and enjoy the rain. How romantic! One of the most popular Hindi film rain songs. They walk on streets, let that be an artificial rain on a set. The three cute children were Randhir, Ritu and Rishi Kapoor, who gave their first appearance on the silver screen.
2. Raat Ke Humsafar – An Evening in Paris (1967) Rafi & Asha Bhosle / Shankar Jaikishan – Shailendra
Lovers, played by Shammi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore, roaming on the streets of Paris at night. Almost ⅔ of the song is picturised on streets, while the couple rides a boat for the last verse. A beautiful song that maintains its popularity over the years. Here’s the Video link
3. Haseeno Ki Sawari Hai – Love in Simla (1960) Rafi & Suman Kalyanpur / Iqbal Qureshi – Rajendra Krishan
A cute romantic song, though I think Sadhana and Joy Mukherjee haven’t yet realized their love. It comes fairly early in the narrative. A beautiful Sadhana being pulled in a rickshaw by Joy Mukherjee and the latter praising her. He pulls the rickshaw in the city of Simla, visiting schools, marching soldiers and many other places.
4. Humko To Jaan Se Pyari Hain – Naina (1973) Rafi / Shankar Jaikishan – Hasrat Jaipuri
Shashi Kapoor and Rajshree roaming around in an European city, which I couldn’t recognise. They visit a few monuments, and ride a boat as well. The city could be Venice.
Quite a memorable song. A very interesting song! Because we see young Shashi Kapoor and Rajshree in the song, but there was considerable change in Shashi Kapoor’s looks and he used to look quite different (a bit older) in the early 70s. Is it possible that the song was picturised for some other movie in the 60s and included later in the movie Naina?
5. Rome Ki Wadiyon Se – Spy in Rome (1968) Rafi / Laxmikant Pyarelal – Anand Bakshi
I came across the song while I was researching for my posts on Rafi’s association with Laxmikant Pyarelal. Quite a good song, though noticeably from a ‘B grade’ movie. The lead couple is played by Dev Kumar and Jaymala. Not at all well known names. The latter was the wife of B K Adarsh, who directed this movie.
The couple strolls in the city of Rome and we get to see a glimpse of a few architectural wonders of the city. It seems the song runs in the background, as we never get to confirm if the hero is lip syncing to the song.
6. Rimjhim Gire Sawan – Manzil (1979) Lata Mangeshkar / R D Burman – Yogesh
A perfect fit for today’s list. Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee enjoying the rain on the streets. We get to see old Mumbai from the late 70s. A song shot in real rain in Mumbai around four decades back. The couple starts from Nariman Point, and walks along Marine Drive, Flora Fountain, and the nearby choupati. It’s refreshing to watch a clean Mumbai, not much overcrowding on the roads. It looks quite simple, innocent. The couple enjoys each other’s company and the rain.
Though Kishore Kumar’s version is more popular, I like this slightly fast paced version by Lata Mangeshkar.
7. Loveria Hua – Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman (1992) Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Jolly Mukherjee & Chorus / Jatin Lalit – Dev Kohli
A leap into the 90s now! A song that was popular those days. Watching it in 2025 is so blissful! No vulgarity at all. Juhi Chawla looks beautiful in a simple attire, and Shahrukh Khan, miles away from stardom, looks so real. The song is picturised on a street adjoining a chawl in Mumbai. Nana Patekar announces Shahrukh Khan’s illness as Loveria and also participates in the song for a while. I remember watching this movie when I was in 9th standard. Those were the days! Now it’s only nostalgia. Oh! I miss the 90s.
Let’s now visit the second category.
Songs of Teasing/ Pestering/ Stalking –
8. Chala Hai Kahan – Sanjog (1961) Lata Mangeshkar / Madan Mohan – Rajendra Krishan
Laali (Anita Guha) and Shyam (Pradeep Kumar) were childhood friends. The latter has a fascination for cities as he considers that once one reaches a big city, one becomes rich. Whenever he hears the whistle of a train, he runs to the railway station to catch it. He follows his dream in adulthood as well and Laali runs after to stop him. The song appears in the initial few minutes of the film. She is not exactly teasing or pestering him, but in a way she does. She requests him not to leave and be with his beloved.
9. Mana Janab Ne Pukara Nahin – Paying Guest (1957) Kishore Kumar / S D Burman – Majrooh
A stalking song! Dev Anand follows Nutan on his bicycle. He teases her a lot. Dev Anand looks charming and Nutan is absolutely gorgeous. Finally both of them ride separate bicycles, but by then Nutan seems to have fallen for his charm.
10. Dil To Kisi Ko Doge – Ek Saal (1957) Rafi / Ravi – Prem Dhawan
Johny Walker following Minu Mumtaz on the streets on a bright sunny day. She is carrying an umbrella. He is completely bowled over by her charm. He is now pursuing and making his point, if she has to lose her heart to someone, why not him? He is smart and handsome, he has made his name as well. Many girls are falling for him, still his heart beats only for her. He wouldn’t give up and keep following her forever. A fun to watch!
11. Thoda Ruk Jayegi To Tera – Patanga (1971) Rafi / Shankar Jaikishan – Indeevar
Shashi Kapoor teasing, pestering Vimmi. The street appears to traverse a jungle as the couple goes through a garden and tall woods. Well sung by Rafi for a charming looking Shashi Kapoor.
12. Zara Mud Ke To Dekh – Lalkar (1972) Rafi / Kalyanji Anandji – Kulwant Jani
Dharmenra follows Mala Sinha, who’s riding a bicycle. He always manages to catch up with her either running via a shortcut or even riding a horse. Mala Sinha appears to enjoy it all. I won’t call it one of my favourites, but the song is enjoyable. For me the main attraction was Rafi’s excellent rendition. There’s a sincerity in his confession of love, or so I thought!
13. Ruk Jana O Jana – Warrant (1975) Kishore Kumar / R D Burman – Anand Bakshi
Dev Anand again, though past his prime. He follows Zeenat Aman, who’s driving a car. He teases her, firstly on a bulldozer, then he seats on the car’s bonnet, then on a bullock cart. He pesters her like hell. The entire song is picturised on a hill road (ghat) with acute turns. I don’t exactly know the situation in the song, it could be just an attempt to reach her. Now, A leap into the 90s.
14. Premi Aashiq Aawara – Phool Aur Kaante (1991) Kumar Sanu / Nadeem Shravan – Sameer
Songs of this movie were roaringly popular on their release. In addition to the romantic duets, this stalking song was also popular. Madhu, jogging with her friends, is chased by Ajay Devgan and company on bikes. He shows a few acrobats on bike and irritates Madhu a good deal. Most of the song is picturised on streets, while the last part is shot on a lawn.
15. Ruk Ruk Ruk Are Baba Ruk – Vijaypath (1992) Alisha Chinai / Anu Malik – Shyam Anuragi
And if you think, it’s only a hero who pesters the heroine, here’s the opposite. Tabu makes an open announcement of her love for Ajay Devgan on the streets. She even makes beggars, police constables and watchmen dance for her, while an ignorant and still a bit irritated Ajay Devgan doesn’t give her a damn. The song was an instant hit, due to Alisha Chinai’s crisp and spot on vocal expressions. Songs were a big attraction of the action drama.
