Squid Game 3 baby twist SHOCKS audiences and the main leads of the show Lee Jung-Jae, Lee Byung-Hun. Here’s how they reacted.
Squid Game has managed to win hearts with its previous seasons and makers are all set to surprise viewers with their season 3. A new player has joined the game mid-way and will walk away with the prize money. After Jun-Hee (Jo Yu-Ri) decides to make a motherly sacrifice to save her baby girl born during the game, the child will become Player 222 and take up her mother’s position. The baby will be seen changing the course of the tournament and she will soon become symbolic of the final moral battle between Gi-Hun/Player 456 and The Front Man/Hwang In-Ho.
The upcoming plot of Squid Game season 3 will leave audience shocked. The main leads of the show Lee Jung-Jae who played Seong Gi-Hun, and Lee Byung-Hun who played the Front Man/Hwang In-Ho were shell-shocked after they heard the baby’s plot.
Lee Jung-Jae first read the script
After Jun-Hee’s pregnancy was revealed in Squid Game 2, the baby will be born in season 3, but with a twist. Jung-Jae was not at all expecting creator and director Hwang Dong-Hyuk to go that far with his imagination. In an interview with Variety he said that when he first read the script, when he read the part about the baby being born, he was just in quite a shock himself. The actor said that he thought it was a great element in the story and for the VFX, they had a robot built in the shape and weight of an actual newborn baby who had actual facial expressions. The actor continued saying, “It would wiggle like a newborn baby, and the weight was quite realistic. So that helped me a lot with my performance.”
Here’s why Gi-Hun put himself before baby
Jung-Jae explained Gi-Hun’s reason for putting the baby before himself and getting out of the game. “Those that have come into Squid Game, the players of the game, they’ve chosen to be there — but that’s not the case for the baby. And so I think from Gi-hun’s standpoint, that’s one of the reasons why it becomes very important for him to protect the baby, because that baby didn’t make that choice to be there. And also, Gi-hun, being the person that he is, who has such a good heart, he wanted to help the baby’s mother.”
As per Jung-Jae the baby’s inclusion in the game and plot was quite symbolic as it represents innocence and she thinks there’s another theme that is expressed through the birth of the baby. She said that it is part of Gi-hun’s struggle of wanting to protect innocence in a cruel and brutal world.
Lee Byung-Hun said the baby brought morality to the Front Man and shook something inside him. His facial expressions were masked, when he was with the VIPs, and felt it was almost his duty to seem to be completely prepared. Squid Game Season 3 will stream on Netflix.
