Rubina Dilaik and her actor-husband, Abhinav Shukla, have chosen a unique approach to parenting. From preferring homemade food to staying connected with the roots is their key mantra to raising their kids. In a recent podcast, Rubina shared how this philosophy guides their decision to raise their children in the actress’ hometown. During a conversation with Paras Chhabra on the Abraa Ka Dabra Show, Rubina explained why she and Abhinav live in Mumbai while their kids, Jeeva and Edhaa, are in Himachal Pradesh. She revealed that they were very thoughtful when planning their family, aiming to provide their children with a nurturing environment that stays connected to their roots.

She said, “Jab hum family plan kar rahe the aur jab bhi hum apne bachche ki aur family ki baat karte the. Toh hum dono hi bahut mindful the ki humein bachche kis mahol mein palne hai. Humein unhein saaf environment dena hai. Woh mitti mein khele, woh ek humble background mein palle badhe. Woh jitna ho sake gaon se jude rahe aur unhe khud ki kheti se ugaya hua khana mile (When we were planning a family and whenever we talked about our child and family, both of us were very mindful about the environment in which we would raise our children. We have to give them a clean environment. They should play in the soil and grow up in a humble background. They should stay connected to the village as possible and get food grown from our farms.)”

Further, the Choti Bahu fame said, “Kyunki main pahadan hu (Because I am from the hills), I belong to the family of landlords and farmers. And I m blessed with orchards, farms and fields. So hum dono ne consciously decide kiya jaise hi bachche teen ya char mahine ke ho jayenge, unke basic vaccinations ho jayenge (So both of us consciously decided that as soon as the children turn teen or four months old, they will get their basic vaccinations), we will take them to the farmhouse, and we will raise them there.”

The actress explained that while she and Abhinav chose to raise their children, Jeeva and Edhaa, in Himachal Pradesh surrounded by nature, they haven’t moved their base from Mumbai. Instead, the couple frequently travels back and forth for work commitments. Recently, due to heavy snowfall in Himachal, Jeeva and Edhaa were brought to Mumbai. When they returned to the city, Rubina’s joint family began missing them. She shared a touching moment when her grandmother expressed how empty it felt without the girls, saying, “Bada suna suna sa lag raha hai (It feels very empty).” Rubina reassured her that the little ones would return to Himachal in a few months.

In the same conversation, she also clarified, “We don’t want to make them privileged. Toh hum unhe achchi parvarish denge (we will give them a good upbringing), but if they want to choose a life for themselves – they want luxury, super luxury or no luxury. It’s going to be their choice. Matlb bachche ko bigarna nhi hai. Bachcho ko har cheej platter mein serve karke nhi deni hai. Achchi parvarish denge, achchi education denge, achcha palan poshan (It means not to spoil the children. Children should not be served everything on a platter. We will give them good upbringing, good education, good upbringing.)”

Rubina Dilaik shared that her children have never tasted sweets or salty foods. During her conversation with Paras Chhabra, she explained that screen time, chocolates, and other sweet treats are strictly off-limits for their kids. When asked if maintaining such a diet is challenging, Rubina mentioned that both she and Abhinav prefer homemade food (sada khana). She also shared how they used to prepare separate dishes for guests by adding salt and sugar. Rubina added that her parents had always prohibited her from consuming aerated drinks and processed foods, a practice she continues to follow with her own children.
