It is rare for an actor to have two movies playing in the theatres, both of different genres where he plays two extremely different characters. Today is one such day for Vineet Kumar Singh. The actor’s Chhaava is playing to packed houses in theatres, raking in huge money as its box office collection and on the other hand his Superboys of Malegaon has also hit the theatres today. While one is a historical drama, where he plays Kavi Kalash, a poet and friend to Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, in the other he plays a Writer, who is desperate for respect and recognition. What is common between both these is that both the characters are inspired by real life and Vineet plays both with great elan.
While he is basking in the success and accolades that are coming his way, things were not always easy for him. In the latest episode of Spotlight with Smrity, the actor opened up about times when he wanted a role, a project dearly and still failed to get it. “There is no other option but to stay motivated and positive,” he says about handling moments when things do not work out his way. “I recite Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s poem Haar Nahin Maaunga, which keeps me going,” Vineet says
Sharing why rejections really happen, the Chhaava actor explains, “One of the reasons is that they are looking for something else and you are not that. For instance, they want to make Mutton Curry, but you are Paneer, things will not work for obvious reasons. That doesn’t mean that you are bad.”
But the other reason is far more heart-breaking. Exposing how things sometimes work in the entertainment industry, Vineet shares with us an instance where he was removed from his own film. “There was a role that I really wanted and had been preparing for, but they didn’t even call me for the audition. Another case is, I had written Mukkabaaz and they told me that we will take the story but actor koi aur hoga. Meri hi picture se mujhe hi nikal diya, he tells us.
“But I stood my ground. Thankfully I had the rights to the story and I told them that either I play the lead character or this film never gets made. I will burn the script but will not let it be made with another actor,” the Superboys of Malegaon actor recalls.
As we know it, Vineet had his way and he played the role so well that it won him acclaim, accolades and a lot more work. “There is another story that I have but things are getting delayed as they are not ready to sign on the dotted line that I will play the lead character,” he tell us further revealing that he is again ready to tear the script or make it himself, even if that means he has to sell all that he has built thus far. Well, with Vineet proving his mettle as an actor film after film, we are sure there will be no need for this and his recent portrayal of Kavi Kalash in Chhaava and Farooq in Superboys of Malegaon, will only make the road ahead smoother for him.
Superboys of Malegaon also stars Adarsh Gourav, Shashank Arora, Gyanendra Tripathi amongst others. It is directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Zoya Akhtar, Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby. The film tells the story of Nisar Sheikh, who dreamt of becoming a filmmaker sitting in a small Indian village, Malegaon and gave wings to his dreams by creating a whole parallel film industry in the small town. The film has released in the theatres today and is getting acclaim and accolades by fans, critics and celebs. Read our review here and watch the film if you love films and good cinema.
