Diljit Dosanjh’s fans call out RACISM over his Met Gala 2025 look; question why he was DENIED permis…
Diljit Dosanjh brought royalty to Met Gala 2025 as his look was inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. His fans were more than happy to see him dressed as a King.
Met Gala 2025 was truly a special one for India. Some of the biggest names from the film industry represented the country in full glory. Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kiara Advani and many more walked the prestigious red (read blue) carpet of the gala. Diljit Dosanjh was also one of them. The Punjabi singer represented the India culture in the best way possible with his Maharaja-style dressing. However, it also led to a controversy online with fans calling out racism against the singer.
Diljit Dosanjh wore an outfit made by Prabal Gurung that was inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh. While he was among the most perfectly dressed celebs at the event, some were displeased with his outfit stating that he wasn’t in-sync with the theme. But many of his fans came out his support leading to people also calling out racism against the star.
Diljit Dosanjh’s fans also got furious as he was denied permission to borrow a diamond necklace made by Cartier for Maharaja of Patiala in 1928. The New York Times had Diljit’s stylist Abhilasha Devnani stating that she tried to borrow the iconic Cartier necklace for the night, however, she was told that it is sealed in a museum. This led to people talking about colonialism and more. Many noted that YouTuber Emma Chamberlain had worn the necklace a few years ago but Diljit was denied permission. One of the comments made by a netizen read, “so Cartier denied Diljit “permission” to wear the necklace they STOLE from India after the british left in 1947 and it’s honestly exhausting how we’re constantly disrespected, like no shade but y’all Emma wear it but not him ? HES LITERALLY DRESSED LIKE THE PRINCE WHOSE IT WAS.”

Yall are racist as hell. For the people saying he’s not on theme, he ABSOLUTELY is. Black dandyism is all about being impeccably groomed and dressed, accessorizing with purpose, and profound self-expression. This is Diljit embodying a version of dandyism in his own culture
So @diljitdosanjh had to wear jewels inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala’s @Cartier collection, as he wasn’t allowed to wear the original necklace. But Emma Chamberlain worn the original Cartier Patiala Choker in 2022 #MetGala. Talk about cultural appropriation! https://t.co/G7CkcJFAQzpic.twitter.com/abXpzCE3ht
Away from all of this, it appears that Diljit Dosanjh had a gala time at the event. Pictures of him posing with Shakira, Priyanka Chopra and others have gone viral on social media.
