Actor and model Mukul Dev passed away on May 23, 2025. He was just 54 years old. His sudden demise left several shocked. He was the younger brother of actor Rahul Dev. Days after his demise, Rahul Dev has finally opened up on the cause of Mukul Dev’s demise. He was the one who carried out the last rites of his brother. In the latest interview, Rahul Dev spoke about Mukul Dev’s loneliness and loss of will to live life.
In a chat with Times of India, Rahul Dev revealed that Mukul Dev was in the ICU for 8 days. The Son of Sardaar actor had apparently stopped eating altogether over his last few days. As per doctors, it was Mukul Dev’s bad eating habits that led to his demise. He said, “He was in the ICU for eight and a half days. Medically, it was a result of poor eating habits. In the last four-five days, he had stopped eating altogether. Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life…He would turn down several work offers… Only now, after completing all the rituals, is the reality sinking in – and I know the pain will only deepen.”
Further, Rahul Dev commented on reports and people assuming that Mukul Dev was suffering from depression. He stated that people called Mukul Dev ‘unfit’ but he could run half-marathons. He mentioned that people who are speaking out now about Mukul weren’t even in touch with him.
Rahul Dev further explained that Mukul Dev wasn’t looking after himself and ‘living alone’ didn’t help. He reportedly separated from his wife in 2005. Mukul Dev moved to Delhi in 2019 to take care of his ailing father. The same year he lost his father and in 2023, his mother passed away. He then grew increasingly reclusive and immersed himself into writing. Rahul Dev mentioned that Mukul missed his daughter deeply and was not taking proper care of himself. Though Rahul tried to encourage his brother to get back to acting, Mukul resorted to writing. “He was a gifted writer, but writing is lonely work,” Rahul said.
In the end, Rahul Dev shared that he doesn’t want to remember his brother as some who just ‘faded away’ but rather as someone who was who was extremely charming, intelligent and sensitive.
