Plus an astrology and tarot forecast, writing ritual, and herbal lore for the new moon in Taurus.

The April 2025 new moon falls in the sign of Taurus. The Taurus archetype is grounded and steadfast, calm and composed, firm and also somewhat stubborn. This is a sign that is practical and earthy, and is associated with material pleasures, desires, luxuriousness, and abundance.
Spiritually, the Taurus archetype teaches the principle of belonging through presence…our presence as sacred human beings…honoring the body temple…honoring the flow of life. This can be difficult given the society we live in, which praises the hustle over reverence and treats time as money rather than a finite resource that should be used wisely in the pursuit of the things that give us meaning.
The April 2025 new moon also brings into focus the ways in which you communicate and the power of owning your voice. This isn’t always an easy thing – to speak your truth. There’s a lot of anxiety that it can bring up, around how you are perceived; how your words translate; and what people may think of you. It can lead to fears of being “found out” or ostracized – neither of which is a rational fear!
You could also find yourself in a reflective mood at this time, teasing over a particular long-held belief or way of showing up in the world. Or perhaps, you may just need some time to rest or introspect. If that is the case, do honor that impulse.
Astrology and tarot forecast for the April 2025 new moon
To throw some more light on the astrology of the new moon, let’s take a look at the astrological and tarot influences of this lunation. The Taurus new moon falls in decan 1, which is represented by the 5 of Pentacles. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Hierophant, which is associated with Taurus.

The Daily Pause Oracle Deck
I designed this beautiful, 40-card oracle deck to bring in some stillness, to give us a word or an idea to reflect on as we go about our day.
Supported by the four elements – earth, air, fire, water – and a carefully thought-out structure that connects the cards, The Daily Pause oracle will help you to listen to and trust your own inner knowing.
There’s no learning curve involved with using this deck. Just get quiet, shuffle the cards, pull one out, and reflect on the word you’re presented with.
With this Taurus new moon, we are officially out of the shadow of eclipse season — do you feel a subtle sense of a shift in energy, perhaps? Or maybe a sense of reflecting on the world you inhabit and your place in it?
When I speak of the world you inhabit, what I mean is the world you’ve built, with the stories you tell, the beliefs you’ve inherited or absorbed from the overculture, and the quiet whisperings of your own inner voice, which are perhaps directing you to a slightly new path.
During this new moon, reflect on how you use your voice, live your truth, and the fears that sometimes arise around being seen and heard. Do you sense any anxiety around being misunderstood, of saying the wrong thing, or of no longer fitting into the spaces you used to fit in before?
This is where The Hierophant can be your guide. Traditionally seen as a rather dogmatic figure, related to organized religion or traditions, in modern times, The Hierophant can be recast as a wise mentor or elder.
As you contemplate broader questions of belonging — beliefs, after all, are often formed in relation with family, culture, and society — see if you can access your inner mentor or wise one for guidance and wisdom. Notice what arises: what beliefs are shifting, what stories need to be rewritten, what new truths may be emerging.
You don’t need to find the “right” answer immediately, there is almost always space for our beliefs to change and shift and evolve, but during this new moon, plant a seed of awareness and trust that clarity will come in time.
With the Moon forming a square with both Mars and Pluto, there is a certain volatility to this new moon. This may be a good thing; forcing us to take quick action rather than remaining stuck in over thinking or planning.
On the world stage, this particular pairing of planets can also indicate protests and upheavals. Leaning into practices that nourish you can be helpful, whether you’re taking to the streets to protest, are offering support to friends or strangers in vulnerable positions, or simply need to self-regulate while the world around you seems to teeter towards instability.
During this Taurus new moon, ask yourself what new truths are emerging and bring your awareness to ways in which you can self-regulate and nourish yourself as you deal with both a changing inner world and a seemingly unstable outer world.
Herbal medicine for the Taurus new moon
Every new moon, I will choose a herb for us based on the astrology around the moon, using the Herbal Astrology Oracle by Adriana Ayales. I’ll include a bit about the herbal lore and some guidance that you can weave in to your new moon workings.

The herb that I chose for the April 2025 new moon in Taurus is Nettle.
Associated with both Mars and Pluto, Nettle is associated with both Thor, the god of thunder, and Loki, the trickster god in Norse mythology. Its stinging leaves perfectly embody Mar’s attributes, cause irritation, stimulation, and increased blood circulation.
In ancient Egypt, nettle was used to treat arthritic pain and rheumatism, as well as to combat lethargy.
The elemental fire within Nettle activates to purify and and strengthen. Emotionally and mentally, it directs ambition, sharpens intellect, and ignites leadership. On a spiritual level, Nettle has the power of snake medicine, granting us the power of fire to transmute and protect. On a personal level, Nettle teaches you to be strong, protective, and able to handle life and its complexity with patience and confidence.
Note: I am not a herbal practitioner, and the herbs that I choose for us on each new moon are not meant to be ingested. If you own a copy of the Herbal Astrology Oracle, you can place the card on your altar. Alternately, you can find a photograph of the herb and paint or sketch it in your journal while you reflect on its healing properties and how they may resonate with you.

Journaling/story telling writual for the new moon in Taurus
For this month, I have a little world-building/story telling writual (writing ritual) that you can do. I hope you enjoy it, and that it brings you some interesting insights.
You will need:
A notebook and pen, if you are comfortable writing by hand. Else your favorite note taking app.
A candle/incense/some crystals to set a bit of an atmosphere
Some soothing music to write to. Maybe something instrumental so it doesn’t distract you.
The writual:
Take a few deep breaths to ground yourself, to arrive in this space, to be present with these questions.
For this writual, we are going to write a short fantasy-style story about your inner world, where you are the main character, and your current emotional landscape becomes a mythic realm. Consider the following questions while writing your story:
Who is your character, and what shapes her? Consider the beliefs she’s grown up with, the stories she’s inherited from family, society, or the overculture. How have they shaped her into the person she is today? Tip: When you’re creating your character, remember that she’s a fictionalized avatar of you.
What drives her? What are her longings, motivations, fears?
What inner monsters is she currently facing? These can be doubts, patterns, decisions, griefs, fears, anything you’re grappling with right now. Imagine how these challenges might appear in your story — as monsters or creatures or magical forces in her path.
What do these monsters want? How do they challenge her? Are they trying to protect her in some way? Control her? Or are they pulling her away from something important?
Who are her allies? Is there a mentor or guide that offers her wisdom and guidance at this time? What do they see in her that she might be struggling to see in herself? What guidance do they offer her?
What tools or magic does she carry? What inner or outer resources are available to her now? What kind of “battle strategy” might she develop to face these monsters?
How does this story end? How does she eventually defeat the monsters? What does this battle or challenge teach her? How does she evolve or grow? What does she learn from this challenge?
Tip: You can draw some oracle cards to gain further insights or depth for some of these questions, if you wish. I recommend oracle cards here, simply because their messages can be a bit more focused and less wide-ranging than tarot cards. Your mileage may vary.
Once your story is written, take a little break, and then tease out in your journal:
- What strength, tool, or piece of guidance from the story feels most valuable right now?
- What real-world actions can you take to deal with the situation/challenges you wrote this story about.
Once you’ve completed your writual, do something to nurture yourself. Go out in nature if you can, take a bath, eat some chocolate, cuddle a loved one or a pet.
