Earlier this week, I attended a press conference jointly hosted by the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) and the German Embassy in India. And, if the stats, announcements, and enthusiasm in the room were anything to go by, Germany is all set to become a top contender on every Indian traveller’s wishlist. I walked in expecting a routine tourism update, but what I got instead was a vibrant showcase of culture and travel inspo with and a whole lot of stats that showcased that Indians are discovering Germany like never before.

India tourists in Germany:

First things first: the numbers floored me. Germany recorded over 897,000 overnight stays by Indian travellers in 2024, an 8.6% increase from the previous year. Even more interesting? The average stay for Indian tourists rose to 9.6 nights, suggesting that we’re not just ticking Germany off our bucket lists—we’re soaking it in. Add to that the air connectivity between the two nations: 309 flights per month in January 2025, up from 241 in 2019. A 28% increase, making it easier than ever to land straight into a fairytale.

Vision for 2025:

Germany ignites Indian wanderlust by offering romantic escapes and cultural deep dives that cater to the modern traveller. Whether it’s a couple looking for a peaceful retreat amidst nature or an adventurous exploration of our historic routes, Germany has something exceptional to offer. Germany has curated experiences designed with Indian travellers in mind. At the event, we were introduced to three core tourism themes for 2025 by Georg Enzweiler, Deputy Chief of Mission at the German Embassy.

Think beyond Neuschwanstein Castle (though it’s still dreamy as ever). Picture this: wine-tasting cruises along the Moselle, spa hideaways in snow-covered Bavarian chalets, and garden strolls through blooming Saxon castle estates. It’s the kind of European honeymoon that feels custom-made for Bollywood film frames. With Indian honeymooners seeking unique and offbeat destinations, this couldn’t come at a better time.

2. Cultureland Germany:

For those (like me) who find joy in cobbled streets, cathedral bells, and centuries-old stories, Cultureland Germany is a goldmine. The country boasts 52 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, world-renowned museums, and cultural gems like Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Berlin’s art-meets-history vibe. What stood out to me most was the spotlight on Chemnitz, recently named the European Capital of Culture for 2025. It’s currently buzzing with exhibitions, performances, and events that celebrate Germany’s artistic soul.

3. Embrace Nature in Germany:

Germany’s also going big on sustainable tourism, and I love how they’re not just throwing the word around. This theme focuses on eco-conscious travel like hiking through scenic national parks, staying in energy-efficient countryside retreats, and experiencing the outdoors without leaving a heavy footprint.

Germany is clearly positioning itself not just as a tourist hotspot—but as a deeply immersive experience. The storytelling, the special packages, the cultural tie-ins, and the eco-focus all point to one thing — Germany sees Indian travellers as long-term guests, not just passersby.
