Tarot spread and astrology and tarot forecast for the May 2025 full moon in Scorpio

The May 2025 full moon falls in the sign of Scorpio. The Scorpio archetype is known for its intense power and its ability to transform, much like the butterfly emerging from its cocoon, ready to fly. The Scorpio archetype isn’t afraid of the birth-death-rebirth cycle, for it is only when parts of us die and are reborn that we can fully transform.

So perhaps it’s not surprising that spiritually, the Scorpio archetype teaches us to surrender — to align our human will with divine will. It can teach us that sometimes our human trials can reveal a need for deep healing. This is not always easy to live with or to understand, especially when the need for healing arises from trauma, and yet on the other side of working with and healing trauma there can be deep and valuable transformation.

This full moon also presents an excellent opportunity to spend time with friends and communities that nurture you and help you grow. If you’ve wanted to attend a workshop or plan an event or outing with friends or colleagues, this will be a great time to put those plans in action.

This full moon is also an excellent time to focus on your most cherished dreams and desires. Take some time to take stock of your progress towards your goals so far, and see where you need to made tweaks or changes to ensure that you are moving in the direction of your dreams.

Astrology and tarot influences for the May 2025 full moon

To throw some more light on the astrology of this Scorpio full moon, let’s take a look at the astrological and tarot influences of this lunation. The Scorpio full moon falls in Decan 3, which is ruled by Seven of Cups. This is to be seen in conjunction with Death, which is associated with Scorpio, and which brings to mind the life-death-rebirth cycle, and the many transformations that each of us witness throughout our lives.

Sometimes, we are thrust into a season of change, seemingly against our will. At other times, it’s almost like a veil lifts, bringing a sharp clarity that pushes us into making changes. This Scorpio moon could help us pierce the veil, to discover the dreams that no longer fit, the goals that no longer align, the projects that no longer seem interesting, and the people or situations that we may have outgrown.

And if, as we find ourselves grappling with these questions of identity — because don’t our goals, dreams, desires form our identity? — we realize that we were swayed by the drumbeat that someone else was walking to, perhaps it’s best to invite in change….to compost and surrender the things that no longer serve us, including the versions of ourselves we once clung to, and to open ourselves up to inviting in our own truth, in this moment.

To discern who we are without that dream…without that ambition…to become comfortable with our shifting and changing and evolving identity, sense of self, of what is real and true and important to us. That’s the major theme of this lunation.

Transformation, of course, doesn’t happen in a vacuum.

With the moon forming an opposition to Uranus, the planet of change, what’s been lurking in the shadows could come into sharp focus. We may be jolted out of our illusions, forced to confront the gap between what we say we want and what we’ve been settling for. Expect emotional breakthroughs, sudden insights, or even flashes of intuition, which may reveal speedbumps or detours on your path.

With the moon forming a beneficial trine with Saturn, we have the opportunity to bring some structure to these disruptions, to discern which of the many cups before us is truly ours to lift, and to rebuild, where necessary, with clarity and commitment.

Womanrunes for the May 2025 full moon in Scorpio

Every full moon, I will draw a Womanrune for us, as a theme, a learning, a focus point for the days until the next full moon rolls around. This month, I drew Rune 19: Dancing Women. The Rune of Celebration.

At first glance, this may seem like a strange rune to draw during a full moon that points to changes and the potential dissolution of long-held beliefs. But is it?

As we shed old skin, old beliefs, goals and desires that no longer align, it frees us up to move more easily towards what we do want. And isn’t that a cause for celebration?

Even in the midst of change, of letting go, of shedding old skin, we can celebrate everything that we learnt. Even the wrong turns, forgotten dreams, and dropped goals have something to teach us. Something we needed to learn, to understand, in that moment.

As the old falls away, it works as compost, as fertilizer, to help us nurture and grow the new — be that a new goal, a new way of being, a new way of thinking and showing up in this world.

Through every joy and every sorrow, there is much to celebrate, even if we don’t immediately see, and even though it may not always be easy to live with or understand. On the other side of every growth edge, there is immense satisfaction to be had.

The Womanrunes were created by Shekhinah Mountainwater in 1987. There were originally no written interpretations available for these runes, other than the name and one word meanings, which offer tremendous scope for personal interpretation. The remastered original hand drawn Womanrunes can be purchased here. Molly Remer subsequently wrote Womanrunes: A Guide to Their Use and Interpretation, based on her own meditations and interpretations of the runes. Her book is available on Amazon and Etsy.
